Adds native sandbox planning, opaque device operations, an internal pairing engine, password and secret-store primitives, confidential master resolution, and a ConfigUserMaster cipher consumer for OpenHuman’s security-module migration. Master acquisition requires an authenticated Human Once decision, exact durable consumption and a required audit receipt. Keys remain inside the native owner; the bus returns opaque aliases, true ciphertext or a delivery acknowledgement.

This is the single cumulative TinySecurity PR for the remaining work under tinyhumansai/openhuman#7328. It remains a draft because App file/scoped-document consumers, pairing, ordinary Host callback integration and final release checks are still required. Refs #1.

The new cipher contract binds once-only pending work to the original request, acquired master, immutable consumer and policy generation. Required routine audit acknowledgement precedes publication. Decrypt, disabled/plaintext compatibility and empty outputs use a fixed confidential native delivery callback; the public result never contains plaintext. Physical reservations remain held through final audit and publication, and uncertain callback work remains charged across cancellation and reinitialization. Contract version 1.11 is additive.

Review fixes retain Human Once device decisions, prepared generation changes, narrowly bound expired/cancelled transitions and scope-isolated sandbox capacity. Config cipher regressions cover compatibility, substitution, replay, expiry, cancellation, audit failure and receiver acknowledgement. Linux tests load the actual hashed native module and exercise all eighteen cipher modes plus device operations from both the repository and an external working directory.

Validation at 8133e28: required Rust 1.99 and MSRV 1.88 builds, tests and documentation passed, along with strict modern Clippy and formatting. Fresh per-file 90% coverage and original changed-line 80% gates passed; changed lines are 585/602 (97.18%). Independent source review and retained-evidence verification passed, including fresh native replay. The failed first verification attempt, with missing build artifacts and unknown cause, is retained and superseded by a successful fresh build with archived binaries, objects and profiles. Optional strict Clippy on 1.88 has inherited test warnings and is explicitly not claimed as passing.

The native callback fixture is an admitted module; ordinary Host callback admission remains pending the owning TinyBus change. macOS and Windows CI execution and final whole-branch gates remain required. This checkpoint does not complete OpenHuman’s config/RPC/file migration. The release workflow owns the semantic version bump and immutable assets; Host pins must come from the published checksum.toml after release.

The subsequent 8be570b checkpoint repairs the native coverage self-test for one collection followed by JSON and LCOV exports, and adds complete independent device wire goldens. All 33 script tests, 124 bus tests on modern/MSRV Rust, strict bus Clippy and formatting pass. Independent review verified production Rust and dependency pins are unchanged. Hosted coverage self-tests pass on all three operating systems; that checkpoint then fails the native audit fixture because its expected callback inventory omits the new confidential cipher consumer, so coverage gates are skipped. Historical device-execution, wire-fixture and setup-activation threads have substantive responses, and re-review has been requested.

The 4bfa1e1 checkpoint adds the missing callback to that fixture while preserving exact inventory, duplicate, version and optional-dependency checks. The real loaded-module failure was reproduced before the fix. All six bundled native examples pass in both the repository and an external directory on Linux, including all eighteen cipher scenarios. Nineteen scoped checks pass, including Rust 1.88; production source remains unchanged. Both hosted CI runs for 4bfa1e1 pass on Linux, macOS and Windows, including actual native examples and coverage gates. Linux/macOS minimum file coverage is 91.13% and changed-line coverage is 97.30%; Windows is 91.04% and 97.26%. All six native artifact hashes match GitHub’s digests. This CI acceptance covers this published checkpoint; the remaining draft scope listed above is still unfinished.

The 1d87ed7 checkpoint adds an internal, bounded pairing engine. It preserves existing hash spelling, token authentication, six-digit code generation, nonexpiring challenges and lockout behavior. Immutable trusted delivery and persistence ports gate token activation; instance-bound acknowledgements, cancellation and dual-clock faults fail closed. Regression tests cover cross-owner acknowledgements, parallel retained-output capacity, revocation under full traffic, staging wipe and backing destruction before capacity refund. All 33 focused tests and eleven validation gates pass independently on the frozen source. Coverage re-exported from retained compiled objects and profiles reproduces the source reports exactly. Fresh JSON/LCOV coverage passes unchanged thresholds: pairing LLVM summary lines 991/1013 (97.83%), full checkpoint changed LCOV coordinates 961/981 (97.96%), and the final backing fix 19/20 (95%). LLVM summary and unique-coordinate denominators are distinct. Existing cipher/device native fixtures pass independently from both working directories. Source review and independent proof verification pass; historical RED is authenticated archived evidence rather than a fresh unfixed-source replay. These are internal engine tests with trusted fake ports; TinyChannels/module integration and actual provider identity, durable storage and UX delivery remain unfinished. Hosted CI for this checkpoint remains required.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 11a36

Reinitializing the security module can fail with "secret authority denied", even when no secret configuration is used. This can block configuration reloads. Make activation idempotent before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 11a36

The new operations have substantial safeguards: authenticated callers, operation-bound human approval, audit checks, and native retention of key material. However, storage-owner identity enforcement and containment of delayed writes remain unverified. Sandbox planning also does not itself provide operating-system isolation.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The newly introduced master-resolution path relies on the production storage owner to map registration and slot to the authorized subject/purpose and fence delayed or replayed writes. The module validates fixed callbacks, echoed identities, grant liveness, and exact readback, but these checks do not establish provider-side fencing. Production enforcement remains unverified; this is an integration proof gap, not a confirmed cross-subject access or overwrite vulnerability.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new master-resolution authority is reachable through the initialized trusted peer and configured registrations, not arbitrary secret names or callback destinations. Configuration permits up to 128 registrations and at most three legacy sources per resolver. Effective exposure includes the configured app or user master slots and their backend owners; broader tenant or environment exposure cannot be established without host integration evidence.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No verified attack path was established. The unresolved path is provider-side: an incorrectly mapped registration or an unfenced delayed write could affect a configured master slot despite valid echoed correlation. Module-side grant rechecks, exact readback, and persistent uncertainty materially constrain this possibility but do not prove the absent storage owner's enforcement.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Sandbox artifacts are staged inactive, audited before activation, and checked against the current generation. Pending artifacts are discarded on failure or cancellation. Consumption revalidates the original operation after audit and atomically removes the exact active artifact, preventing concurrent consumers from both obtaining permission.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Native reservations release capacity on drop without refunding rate allowance. Generation rotation clears retained entries and rotates the authorization key; clock rollback permanently closes the registry. Secret execution rechecks handle validity while holding the alias inventory lock so stale work cannot repopulate a committed generation.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Before release, validate the production storage owner's authenticated registration-to-subject/purpose mapping and write fencing under timeout, cancellation, concurrent owners, generation changes, and process restart. Reconciliation should establish backend quiescence before clearing mutation uncertainty.
