This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

What This Is

This is the GitHub wiki for Drew-Daniels/dotfiles. It's a flat collection of Markdown pages - no build system, no tests, no dependencies. The wiki documents a chezmoi-based dotfiles setup across macOS, Debian, Arch Linux, Fedora/QubesOS, FreeBSD, and NixOS.

Structure

  • Home.md is the wiki landing page and main entry point
  • Each .md file is a standalone wiki page (OS guides, tool notes, workflow docs)
  • tags is a ctags file - not documentation
  • Pages link to each other using GitHub wiki syntax: [Display Text](Page-Name) (spaces become hyphens in link targets)

Conventions

  • Pages use GitHub-flavored Markdown
  • Wiki links use parenthesized page names, not file paths: [Bootstrap](Bootstrap) not [Bootstrap.md]
  • Command blocks use fenced code with language tags (typically bash)
  • Tables use GFM pipe syntax for structured reference data
  • The wiki documents what can't be automated or what requires manual steps. If something is fully automated by chezmoi hooks, explain where the automation lives rather than repeating manual steps.
