This paper introduces three concepts that form the initial basis of an ongoing research program:
- Ultracomputing — a proposed quantum-native computing paradigm that tightly integrates fault-tolerant quantum computing, classical supercomputing, quantum networking, and quantum-native software into a unified platform, along with Ultra-High-Performance Computing (UHPC) as its hardware substrate.
- Artificial Ultraintelligence (AUI) — the proposed final stage in the evolution of artificial intelligence: the most powerful form of Artificial Superintelligence (ASI), enabled by computation fundamentally beyond classical architectures.
- Q-I/O (QIO) — a conceptual four-phase software roadmap (Hybrid AI → NISQ-Enhanced → Fault-Tolerant → AUI) from today's hybrid classical/quantum AI systems toward fully quantum-native intelligence.
This is explicitly framed as a vision paper: the concepts are exploratory and are expected to undergo significant scientific validation and expansion in subsequent work.
This repository is the canonical, versioned home for this paper. It is not intended as a one-time snapshot — we plan to continue developing these ideas, with SQAI 2027 expected to substantially extend or formalize what's introduced here.
To keep the historical record intact while allowing the work to evolve:
- Every substantive milestone is cut as a tagged GitHub Release.
- Each release is archived on Zenodo with its own persistent DOI, chained under one concept DOI that always resolves to the latest version: 10.5281/zenodo.22217705 — use this one for any link that should never go stale (e.g. sqai.org).
mainmay contain in-progress drafts; only tagged releases are considered citable/stable.
| Version | Date | Event | DOI |
|---|---|---|---|
| v1.0.1 | 2026-09-01 | Zenodo archival trigger (no content change) | 10.5281/zenodo.22217706 |
| v1.0.0 | 2026-08-31 | SQAI 2026 initial vision paper | not archived (superseded by v1.0.1; content identical) |
See CHANGELOG.md for details on what changed in each version.
- 📄 PDF (citable, frozen per release):
paper/SQAI-2026-Ultracomputing-A-Vision-for-AUI.pdf - 📝 Markdown (source of record, diffable across revisions):
paper/SQAI-2026-Ultracomputing-A-Vision-for-AUI.md
The Markdown file is what actually changes as the paper evolves — read it directly on GitHub, or diff it between tags to see what changed release to release. The PDF attached to each Release is the frozen, citable snapshot of that version.
