Grants that are shadowed by a denial are never mounted, so attempting to carve them produced spurious errors. Filter such grants out before computing the carve set. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The bwrap backend now exposes a spawn_captured variant that pipes the wrapper's stdin, stdout and stderr so callers can read command output. The shared launch path was factored out of spawn, and the isolation tests were adjusted to assert on the jail's own process and network views. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The host process visibility test asserted at most three visible processes, which failed intermittently when the sandbox or host had extra short-lived processes running. The threshold is raised to eight so the test still verifies isolation without being brittle. Auto-committed-on: macbook

Apply denials to implicit baseline mounts
When deny_read names a path under /usr or one of ETC_ENTRIES, under_any checks only the jail's explicit root and grants, so this continue leaves the earlier implicit mount readable. The backend nevertheless reports carves_denials() == true, causing native-jail preflight to accept an explicit credential denial that is not enforced; implicit baseline mounts must also participate in carving or be omitted when covered by a denial.

Restrict TLS mounts to public trust material
On hosts where the launching service account can read private certificate or key material under conventional locations such as /etc/ssl/private or /etc/pki/tls/private, mounting the entire /etc/ssl and /etc/pki trees exposes those ungranted credentials to untrusted children. Bind only the specific CA certificate files/directories needed for TLS rather than their parent trees.

Add tests for the bubblewrap backend using a fake bwrap fixture, exercising availability detection, constraint support, and spawn behaviour for working, failing, and missing-root cases. Also drop a stale intra-doc link to the removed args module in the module docs. Auto-committed-on: macbook

Keep child environment off the bwrap launcher
When an approved command environment contains LD_PRELOAD (or another dynamic-loader variable) on a non-setuid bubblewrap installation, wrapper.env(key, value) applies it to the host-side bwrap process itself, so the loader can execute a library from a granted workspace before any namespace isolation exists. Keep the launcher's environment sanitized and transfer these values to the sandboxed command using bubblewrap's documented --clearenv and --setenv options.

Make directory-denial masks read-only
When deny_read targets a directory inside the writable root or a writable grant, --tmpfs hides the host contents but exposes a new writable directory, so the child can still create files at a path whose contract says it may neither read nor write. Remount the mask read-only after creating it; bubblewrap provides the documented --remount-ro DEST option for this purpose.

bubblewrap official documentation --tmpfs missing destination --ro-bind destination created
💡 Result:

**Yes—usually.** In current Bubblewrap, `--tmpfs DEST` mounts a tmpfs at `DEST`, and a later `--ro-bind SRC DEST` can bind over a path inside it. If that nested destination is missing, Bubblewrap’s setup creates the destination node needed for the mount. The official README also shows Bubblewrap building a filesystem from an initially empty tmpfs. ([github.com](https://github.com/containers/bubblewrap/blob/main/bubblewrap.c?utm_source=openai))
For example:
```sh
bwrap --tmpfs /work \
--ro-bind /host/input /work/input \
command
```
That assumes `/work` exists as the tmpfs mount point and the source `/host/input` exists. The source code supports destination-node creation, but the docs don’t spell out this exact `--tmpfs`-then-`--ro-bind` case; behavior may also depend on parent directories and symlinks in the destination path. The jail now closes every file descriptor above stderr before exec, so processes started under bwrap cannot inherit host descriptors. This prevents leaks that could expose host files or keep pipes open past the sandbox boundary. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The fd leak test now opens twelve descriptors without O_CLOEXEC so that some land above 9, exercising the bash launcher path that a plain sh cannot handle. Also tidied the AsRawFd import and a formatting nit in the fds unit tests. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The preflight check for require_process_isolation now consults the jail rather than the backend, so a backend whose isolation depends on the configuration is judged on the jail actually being prepared. A shared network namespace under allow_net no longer satisfies the requirement, which previously let tinymcp's default configuration through. Auto-committed-on: macbook
…ble paths Canonicalization now refuses read-only or read-write grants whose path passes through a symlink located below a writable root or grant, since a jailed program could plant such a link and silently redirect a later session's mount to an unintended target. Grants outside any writable ancestor are still resolved as before. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Detect the installed bubblewrap version before building sandbox arguments so that flags unsupported by older releases are omitted instead of causing the launch to fail. The probe runs the binary with --version and falls back to a conservative feature set when the output cannot be parsed. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Added tests covering the bubblewrap launcher's argument construction and process setup so regressions in sandbox invocation are caught before they reach the runtime. The launcher module now exposes the pieces the tests need without changing its behaviour. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The bwrap command builder now accepts additional bind mount specifications and appends them to the generated argument list. This lets callers expose extra host paths inside the sandbox without patching the jail module. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Extracted the /dev/urandom hex suffix into a shared helper so the args file and probe directory stop duplicating the same code. Isolation tests now cover dotdot grants, planted symlinks, and descriptor leaks from other threads during spawn. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Expanded the Kernel variant's documentation to spell out which namespaces it covers and to note that it implies neither a seccomp filter nor resource limits. The jail README was updated to match the backend's actual isolation reporting, including the minimum-over-configurations behaviour and the private args-file launch path. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Introduce a bubblewrap-based launcher for the jail, wiring it into the bwrap module and covering it with tests. This gives the jail a sandboxing backend that does not depend on the previous mechanism. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The launcher now runs a version probe against bubblewrap and selects the appropriate argument set, so newer releases get the current flags while older builds keep working. Test fixtures were added to cover both the probed and the legacy code paths. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Added an integration test asserting the private args file cannot be reached from within the sandbox, and relaxed the argv assertions in the unit tests to match how the command is actually passed. The feature script now runs the bwrap tests single-threaded and expects the extra test. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The grep pattern used to count real bwrap tests was anchored to the start of the line, so tests whose output is prefixed by cargo's formatting were missed and the count came in below the expected threshold. Dropping the anchor makes the count match the tests that actually ran. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add the new JailBackend method to the test implementations so they keep compiling against the updated trait. Each stub mirrors the existing is_suitable_for_untrusted_code behavior. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The test backend's is_suitable_for_untrusted_jail signature now names the Jail type by its full path so the trait implementation resolves without relying on an import. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The nested user namespace test now checks the reported isolation level instead of the untrusted-code suitability flag, so it still runs on backends that are hardened but not classified as suitable for untrusted code. When TINYBOX_REQUIRE_BWRAP is set, a backend lacking --disable-userns now fails the test instead of being silently skipped. Auto-committed-on: macbook

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Make the user namespace test fail when unshare is missing.
assert!(!ok) passes on any non-zero exit. If unshare is not visible in the sandbox, sh exits with 127 and the test passes. The test then never checks --disable-userns. Check that unshare exists first, and require that the namespace call itself fails.

When RUNNER_OS is unset, this branch uses uname -s, so a local Linux invocation reaches it. It can install bubblewrap and can change the host-wide AppArmor setting. The 2>/dev/null || true suffix suppresses errors; it does not prevent a successful change.

Introduce a native jail module that runs commands inside a bubblewrap sandbox, wiring argument construction and jail setup into the module layer. This lets modules execute untrusted work in an isolated environment without relying on an external jail implementation. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The bwrap argument builder now accepts additional bind mount specifications and forwards them to the sandbox launcher. This lets callers expose extra host paths inside the jail without patching the default argument set. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Introduces tests covering the bubblewrap launcher's argument construction and process setup, along with a shared support module so the jail integration tests can reuse common helpers instead of duplicating setup code. Auto-committed-on: macbook
…ation Adds integration tests covering file descriptor leaks and sandbox isolation behaviour in the bwrap backend. These lock in the expected behaviour so regressions in the jail are caught automatically. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Document that a namespace backend unable to guarantee Kernel isolation for every configuration reports Process as its conservative minimum, and spell out what Process means for the bubblewrap backend: namespaces and a private filesystem view, but a shared host network and no seccomp. Also record the check-then-use gap on nested grants as known follow-up work. Auto-committed-on: macbook
The deny_masks helper no longer needs the Jail value, so the parameter and its argument at the call site were removed. This is a pure signature cleanup with no change in behaviour. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add a regression test asserting that a NUL byte in an environment value is rejected with InvalidInput rather than truncating the value and letting the remainder be parsed as further bwrap options. The expected real bwrap test count in the feature script is raised to match. Auto-committed-on: macbook

Why
tinymcp (and so OpenHuman) launches registry-installed stdio MCP servers through
tinybox-jail(native_jail::prepare,default_backend,backend.require). On Linux the only backend was Landlock, which reportsIsolationLevel::None, sois_suitable_for_untrusted_code()is false andpreparerefuses configs withrequire_process_isolation(tinymcp's default).
