on Sep 23, 2026 Status: the crash-loop guard is merged (#317). It's wired into the Windows start in #322: safe mode skips Discord and hosted uploads, "Run setup again" retries a normal start, and there's a troubleshooting doc section. Left for "done when": check that safe mode also turns off automatic updates, and that safe mode offers "export diagnostics" and "open settings" (the status page from #279 and #318 could host these). Then close.

Goal
Let beta users recover from a bad configuration without repeatedly crashing at startup.

After repeated startup failures, the app opens in a usable offline recovery state and the user can diagnose or fix the installation without editing files by hand.
