What is the current state of building on Windows for Arctic Fox?

[OwnedByWuigi]

Title self explanatory lol

Is it like broken, or working fine? Was gonna look into making a Windows build.

[rmottola]

@OwnedByWuigi it is untested since a long time. I do not have a VS setup, neither 2013 nor 2015. Builds were done by @roytam1 for WinXP but he doesn't anymore.
I try to keep patches blindly without testing. Also MinGW/Cygwin were imported, but never tested.

If something is broken because a missing patch, I will import it.

it is likely to be broken, I haven't build it for very long time since VC2013 target is no longer working.
(no, don't tell me to change to VC2015 or later as I have UXP for this)

I’ll likely look into re-making Windows builds if it doesn’t take that much to fix if broken (if @rmottola allows me to make it official lol)

I have a MSVC2017 setup laying around from my UXP builds

Ok... interesting. VS2015 would be a good thing though, does it still do WinXP?

Can 2017 do WinXP ? Vista? Win7?

I have tried to keep some compatibility stuff in, I did not extra remove MSVC2013 support for 47.3 which is due out today/tomorrow if all my builds go fine.
Then for 48 we can discuss... some cleanup would help me... e.g. CRT stuff. I could make a list and ask

2019 is the last to do XP, 2022 last to do Vista and 7. If I were you I’d stick to 2015 or 2017

Going home from vacation this Sunday, will check up on the status of building for Windows then.

@rmottola if it does work as-is or with minimal effort can I redistribute such with official branding?

Let me know how it fares, in the dev branch I pulled in more windows fixes when I see them If I have patches with a windows branch I try to pull them in complete even if I can't test it.

I would like to be more lenient than PaleMoon with official branding, but depends on the changes you need. If they are just build changes or minor patches, yes. Maybe you also just find things I can import from mozilla and fix them. I try to be as close as possible to minimize porting efforts. Let's decide later once you get something building.

I guess you will do a VS build. I'd like to try to make a mingw64 build on my windows7 system, it is powerful enough. However, mingw64 dropped support for win7, so I don't know how to get in "vintage" dependencies, I did not find something like a binary snapshot of the repository. Maybe it doesn't exist, maybe it does.
