Characterizes how wind speed and direction vary with altitude, using ~4 years of historical readings (2021-08 → 2025-08; 148 sampled days, ~7 readings/day) across 21 altitudes (110 m–22 km).
Each timestamped reading is aggregated to a daily value per altitude — arithmetic mean for speed, vector (circular) mean for direction (so 350° and 10° average correctly). Variability is then measured at three levels:
- 5-year overall — std dev of daily mean speed, and circular std of daily mean direction, per altitude.
- Intraday — within-day spread of the sub-daily readings (speed std and direction circular std).
- By speed regime — days are binned by daily mean speed (
0-5, …,25+m/s); within each regime we report directional spread and intraday variability, revealing e.g. that stronger-wind days are gustier.

Put the CSV at data/sim_parameters_historical_combined.csv, then run main.ipynb top to
bottom (uv sync for deps).
Note: statistics describe the 148 sampled days, not continuous coverage of the full window.
