As part of mfg work I've moved the update engine in mostly unmodified form to crates.io (see repository).
The main improvement is that there's now support for automatic replacement with a subset of types -- we use that in wicketd. Unfortunately we can't use that in installinator yet because it's frozen -- we may want to build a way to handle these kinds of compatible updates in the future.
