• mkit public release (v0.4.0)

  The mkit public release: first crates.io-published, attested release (0.3.0 → 0.4.0). Scope: the SPEC-invariants conformance sweep (#549 umbrella, which tracks per-finding status), the #520 transport follow-ups (#545, #546), library stdio hygiene before publishing crates (#441), and the in-flight docs/conformance PRs. Release mechanics: docs/RELEASE.md. Deferred work lives in the 'post-release improvements' milestone.
