Do you support Bluetooth 4.0 LE devices?

I wanted to know if you support Bluetooth 4.0 LE devices?

[nathjwhite]

I do not believe the library does.

It doesn't support it directly, meaning there is no code to scan for devices or connect to the characteristics.
The Bluetooth LE OBD2 dongles I encountered all work the same: They use 2 characteristics to emulate a serial connection (in bluetooth classic they would just use the serial port profile).

Since this library only needs a stream reader and writer, you should be able to add support for this in your own application, using the following rough list:

• scan for devices & connect
• discover services and characteristics
• setup an input stream on the read characteristic, and an output stream on the write characteristic

Or, if this sounds too complicated, you could also try LTSupportAutomotive, which does support BLE devices out of the box (but is still objective-c code).

Can you share the code about "setup an input stream on the read characteristic, and an output stream on the write characteristic"

[thdankert]

My last comment was more than 2 years ago, and back then I did not investigate this library further.
Maybe they even implemented BLE support in the meantime.

If not, have a look at LTSupportAutomotive's LTBLESerialTransporter class. It's Objective-C, but should not be too hard to translate to Swift.

Thank you for the reply , okay please explain me little more about the third point "setup an input stream on the read characteristic, and an output stream on the write characteristic" if possible

[thdankert]

As I've said, have a look at the LTBLESerialTransporter class.

A very rough overview is like this:
Create subclasses from NSInputStream and NSOutputStream.

Whenever the "read characteristic" is updated, take the value and update your input stream's internal buffer, and call the appropriate NSInputStream delegate methods (at least stream:handleEvent: with the NSStreamEventHasBytesAvailable event).

Whenever your output stream has data available, write it to the "write characteristic" (you might need to split it, because Bluetooth LE has a maximum limit for each write).
If the write was successful, call the appropriate NSOutputStream delegate methods (at least stream:handleEvent: with the NSStreamEventHasSpaceAvailable event).
