Hi @ryan-mist. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a github.com member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

While returning errors to trigger requeue is reasonable, there are a few concerns with this approach:

  1. The deletion path (line 67) still only logs errors without triggering requeue. This creates inconsistent error handling between update and delete operations. If cost tracking errors warrant immediate requeue, both paths should handle errors the same way.

  2. Consider whether immediate requeue on every cost tracking error is necessary, given that stateRetryPeriod already provides periodic reconciliation. Immediate requeue could cause rapid retry loops on persistent issues (e.g., nodepool lookup failures).

  3. If you proceed with this change, the deletion error handling should also return errors for consistency, and you may want to consider implementing exponential backoff to avoid excessive retries.
