Hifazat

Islamic Content Guard for Chromium-based Browsers

Hifazat is an open-source browser extension designed to help users voluntarily avoid configured websites and search terms by replacing them with a calm, distraction-free reminder inspired by Surah Al-Isra (17:32).

Built with Manifest V3, the extension performs all processing locally on the user's device without transmitting browsing data to external servers.

Overview

Rather than loading configured websites or search results, Hifazat displays a full-screen reminder featuring the verse:

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَىٰ

"And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way."

Surah Al-Isra (17:32)

The reminder screen includes optional Quran recitation, customizable settings, and a minimalist interface designed to reduce distraction.

How It Works

The extension analyzes browser navigation using multiple signals:

  • Configured domains
  • Search query parameters
  • Configured keywords
  • Page content (where applicable)

When a configured match is detected, the destination page is replaced with the reminder screen.

Processing is performed locally. No browsing history or page content is uploaded to external servers.
