The release workflow builds the sdist and wheel when a GitHub Release is published and uploads them with a short-lived OIDC token, so the repository holds no PyPI secret. The upload job alone has id-token: write and runs in the pypi environment. The build job stops unless the release tag is v plus the pyproject.toml version and the wheel carries the claim table.
