Summary

The Nix package now ships every public/ asset. Before, the cursor style picker was empty.

  • Cause. Run as electron <dir>, the renderer loads its assets from <app>/public/. nix/package.nix copied only wallpapers and fonts there, so cursors was missing.
  • Fix. public/ is now a symlink to dist/, which already holds all of public/ because Vite copies it there. There is no list to keep in sync any more.
  • Guard. nix-build.yml gets a new step that fails when an entry of public/ is missing from the package.

The camera background was not affected. The compositor resolves the segmentation model through VITE_PUBLIC, which is dist/.

Testing

I ran nix build .#openscreen in WSL Ubuntu, on main and on this branch, and checked each result for every public/* entry:

  • main (ad51125): 10 entries are missing. Among them are cursors, mediapipe, sounds and wasm.
  • This branch (a164596): none are missing. public -> dist, and public/cursors/ lists the themes.

npmDepsHash is unchanged.

    • Improved package checks to detect missing public assets before a build completes.
    • Updated asset packaging so files from the public directory are included in the distribution output, rather than copied into a separate directory.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The Nix install phase now links public assets from Vite’s build output. The workflow updates its pull-request path filter and checks that each top-level source public/ entry exists in the packaged output.

Public-only changes can bypass the packaging check, and nested-file regressions can pass its shallow assertion. The current build path is configured to copy nested assets, so no present asset loss is established; the remaining risk is bounded to CI coverage.

Verify nested public files, not only top-level entries.

The current loop accepts an existing directory even when files inside it are missing. Vite copies the public/ tree recursively, so this is a regression-detection gap, not evidence of a current packaging defect. Compare each source file with the packaged public/ tree.

@coderabbitai Re the nested-files nitpick: declined. public is a symlink to dist, so a nested file can only go missing if Vite drops it. The check guards against a top-level tree missing, as in #1085.

@EtienneLescot Thanks for the guidance. The check targets missing top-level asset trees, not Vite’s recursive copy behavior. With public/ symlinked to dist/, that scope fits the regression in #1085. I withdraw the nested-file suggestion.

Learning: In getopenscreen/openscreen, nix/package.nix symlinks the installed public/ directory to dist/, which contains Vite-copied public assets. The public-asset check in .github/workflows/nix-build.yml intentionally checks top-level entries to catch missing asset trees, as reported in #1085. Do not require recursive file validation for this regression check.
