Basic explanation

What this does: #4899 added yes/no masternode vote polls (protocol version 15), but nothing outside the node could read them. This adds two read-only queries, with proofs, through every client layer:

  • getYesNoVotePollState: whether a poll is open or finished, its result once finished, and the voting power cast so far.
  • getMasternodeYesNoVote: how one masternode answered a poll, and how many times it voted on it.

Each layer gets the new queries: the gRPC API, the node's query handlers, DAPI routing, proof verification, the Rust SDK (Fetch), and the wasm and JS SDKs.

Value: Wallets, explorers and the features that will open yes/no polls (moderation team challenges, charter amendments) can show a poll's progress and verify it against the chain, without trusting the node. Without this, a client could cast a yes/no vote but never read back its own answer or the poll's outcome.

Risks: Low. Nothing here changes consensus: no state transition, block processing or stored data changes. The queries are refused with a status clients do not retry before protocol version 15, and the SDK does not send them until the network has proven 15, so 5.0 nodes, which do not know the methods, are never asked and never banned. The one edit to consensus code re-keys YesNoVotePollStateDriveQuery by the poll id, which the end-of-block tally (protocol 15 only, unreleased) derives exactly as before; the tests that close polls still pass.

Issue being fixed or feature implemented

Follow-up to #4899 (issue #4875), which left the client queries out of scope. Drive already had the poll state query and the yes/no proof verifiers; nothing exposed them.

What was done?

How a request names the poll

Both requests take the poll's 32-byte id rather than the poll. The id is the key the poll is stored under, so the node reads and proves by it without decoding a poll from the request, and the verifier rebuilds the same path query from it. The SDK still takes the poll: a query names it by its id or carries the poll itself (QueriedYesNoVotePoll), so YesNoVotePollState::fetch(&sdk, vote_poll) and MasternodeYesNoVoteQuery::new(pro_tx_hash, vote_poll) work, and the wasm and JS methods take the VotePoll objects getVotePollsByEndDate already returns.

The SDK derives the id (YesNoVotePoll::unique_id, the yes_no_vote_poll_id slot) each time it builds the request, with the version it speaks then. No version before 15 derives one, so an SDK still at 14 builds its first request, which only tells it to ask the network whether it runs 15, with the id the newest version it knows derives. Once the network proves 15, the SDK builds the request again at the version it then speaks, and sends that one.

Before, a client holding a poll could only see it in the end date listing:

let polls = VotePoll::fetch_many(&sdk, end_date_query).await?; // a poll's existence, nothing else

After:

let state = YesNoVotePollState::fetch(&sdk, yes_no_poll.clone()).await?; // None if never opened
let answer = MasternodeYesNoVote::fetch(
    &sdk,
    MasternodeYesNoVoteQuery::new(pro_tx_hash, yes_no_poll.clone()),
)
.await?; // Some(MasternodeYesNoVote { vote_choice: No, times_voted: 2 })
const state = await sdk.voting.yesNoVotePollState(votePoll);
// { status: 'finished', result: { passed: true, yesVotingPower: 3, ... }, yesVotingPower: 0, ... }
const vote = await sdk.voting.masternodeYesNoVote(proTxHash, votePoll);
// { choice: 'no', timesVoted: 2 }, or undefined

Layers

  • gRPC (platform.proto): getYesNoVotePollState and getMasternodeYesNoVote, versioned V0 requests and responses. The state is structured, not opaque bytes: a started block, or a finished result (passed, the three tallies, the required voting power, start and finalization blocks), plus the tallies so far. A masternode's answer sits in an entry message whose vote is unset when it has not voted. The generated clients are regenerated, and the handwritten Node and browser PlatformPromiseClient wrappers that @dashevo/dapi-grpc exports forward both calls.
  • Drive:
    • YesNoVotePollStateDriveQuery holds vote_poll_id instead of the poll; for_vote_poll derives it, and construct_path_query no longer needs a version.
    • New MasternodeYesNoVoteDriveQuery { pro_tx_hash, vote_poll_id } with execute_with_proof (new slot vote.yes_no.prove_identity_yes_no_vote), execute_no_proof (the existing fetch_identity_yes_no_vote), and the verifier verify_identity_yes_no_vote (new slot verify.voting.verify_identity_yes_no_vote), returning MasternodeYesNoVote { vote_choice, times_voted }.
    • verify_masternode_yes_no_vote v0 now verifies through the versioned verify_identity_yes_no_vote, and IdentityBasedVoteDriveQuery's yes/no arm builds its path query through that query, so where a masternode's yes/no vote lives is written once.
  • drive-abci: handlers under query/voting/{yes_no_vote_poll_state,masternode_yes_no_vote} with the query version bounds voting_based_queries.yes_no_vote_poll_state and masternode_yes_no_vote. Before 15 the Drive reads answer VersionNotActive, which the service maps to INVALID_ARGUMENT.
  • rs-dapi: routes both methods to Drive and counts them in its metrics.
  • rs-dapi-client: both requests declare needs_protocol_version 15 (new PROTOCOL_VERSION_OF_5_1), listed as Gate(15) in the request inventory.
  • drive-proof-verifier: FromProof and FromUnproved for YesNoVotePollState (None for a poll never opened) and MasternodeYesNoVote.
  • rs-sdk: platform::yes_no_vote_polls with Fetch/FetchUnproved, the query types, mock responses and expectation loading. FetchUnproved now encodes a request that needs a protocol version again after the protocol check, as Fetch already did, so the unproved path also sends the request built at the version the network proved.
  • wasm-sdk / js-evo-sdk: getYesNoVotePollState[WithProofInfo] and getMasternodeYesNoVote[WithProofInfo], and the voting facade methods yesNoVotePollState[WithProof] and masternodeYesNoVote[WithProof]. A contested VotePoll is refused.

Versioning

Protocol version 15 is unreleased, so its tables are amended in place:

  • DRIVE_VOTE_METHOD_VERSIONS_V4 gains prove_identity_yes_no_vote: Some(0).
  • DRIVE_VERIFY_METHOD_VERSIONS_V4 gains verify_identity_yes_no_vote: Some(0).
  • Both are None in every earlier table, and both are in should_activate_every_yes_no_vote_poll_method_at_protocol_version_15.
  • The two query version bounds are 0..=0 in every query table, as for the queries 5.0 added. The Drive slots decide where they are active.

In-place changes to shipped generations

Generation Selected at Edit Why consensus cannot change there
IdentityBasedVoteDriveQuery::construct_path_query (used by prove_state_transition v0 and prove_multiple_state_transition_results v0) 1 to 15 the yes/no arm builds its path query through MasternodeYesNoVoteDriveQuery off the block execution path; the yes/no path query is byte-identical (same path, key and limit), and the contested arm is unchanged
query version tables DRIVE_ABCI_QUERY_VERSIONS_V0 and V1 1 to 13 two new query version bounds queries are not consensus; the Drive reads they serve are not active before 15

The rest of the Drive edits (YesNoVotePollStateDriveQuery, the tally v0 that builds it, verify_masternode_yes_no_vote v0) are in generations only protocol version 15 selects.

How Has This Been Tested?

  • rs-platform-version: the yes/no gating test with the two new slots.
  • rs-drive:
    • a masternode's answer read, proved and verified (present, a masternode with no votes tree, another poll's id), and refused when verified as another masternode's;
    • the poll state round trips by id;
    • every new method VersionNotActive at 14 (should_report_every_yes_no_method_not_active_before_protocol_version_15);
    • the existing yes/no verifier tests.
  • rs-drive-abci:
    • both handlers: a wrong-length id is refused, the query is not active at 14 with and without a proof, a never-opened poll has an empty state, and a non-voter has no entry;
    • should_answer_the_poll_state_and_masternode_vote_queries_through_a_poll_life, through a real poll: before opening, after votes (started, 3 yes and 1 no, each voter's answer and a non-voter's absence), and after closing (finished and passed with a required power of 4, zero tallies, no answers). Each answer is read with and without a proof, and the proof verifies to what Drive holds;
    • should_answer_every_query_added_in_5_1_without_a_retryable_status_at_protocol_14 sweeps both methods over gRPC at 14: INVALID_ARGUMENT, not retryable, "not active".
  • rs-dapi-client: the request inventory test with the Gate(15) entries.
  • drive-proof-verifier: the crate's lib tests (357).
  • rs-sdk:
    • the poll and its id build the same request, and at 14 a poll builds its request with the id the newest version derives;
    • a mock fetch of both types;
    • should_send_methods_protocol_15_added_only_once_it_is_verified: proved and unproved, refused and not sent at 14, sent from 15;
    • should_ask_the_network_before_sending_or_refusing_yes_no_queries_given_the_poll: an SDK at 14 given the poll itself asks the network, refuses all four fetches (both queries, proved and unproved) while the network is at 14, and sends each once, with the id 15 derives, when the network proves a newer version.
  • dapi-grpc: clients regenerated with yarn workspace @dashevo/dapi-grpc build; its unit tests (51, including the new PlatformPromiseClient cases for both calls) and codegen tests (3) pass. The browser wrapper has no spec; a Node check with its generated service stubbed confirmed both methods forward the request and metadata and resolve or reject.
  • cargo fmt --all, clippy on the touched crates, and the verify-only rs-drive build.

Breaking Changes

None in any release. The two gRPC methods are new. YesNoVotePollStateDriveQuery, added in #4899 and not yet released, now holds vote_poll_id: Identifier instead of vote_poll: YesNoVotePoll (build it with YesNoVotePollStateDriveQuery::for_vote_poll), and its construct_path_query takes no version and returns a PathQuery.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added queries for yes/no poll status, voting-power totals, poll results, and individual masternode votes.
    • Added proof-enabled query options across the SDKs and client libraries.
    • Available starting with protocol version 15; earlier nodes reject these requests.
    • Polls without recorded state and masternodes without a recorded vote return no result.

QuantumExplorer and others added 2 commits October 29, 2026 09:05
Adds getYesNoVotePollState and getMasternodeYesNoVote, both by the
poll's 32-byte id, with proofs, through every client layer: the gRPC
API (clients regenerated), the drive-abci handlers, rs-dapi routing,
the client protocol gate (15), FromProof and FromUnproved, rs-sdk Fetch
and mocks, and the wasm and JS SDKs.

Drive keys YesNoVotePollStateDriveQuery by the poll id and adds
MasternodeYesNoVoteDriveQuery with the protocol 15 slots
prove_identity_yes_no_vote and verify_identity_yes_no_vote (None
before). Before 15 both queries answer a non-retryable not-active
status, and the SDK sends neither until the network has proven 15.

Explanation

The title "feat(platform): yes/no vote poll state and masternode answer queries" matches the main change. The PR adds read-only gRPC queries getYesNoVotePollState and getMasternodeYesNoVote across dapi-grpc, Drive, DAPI, proof verification, and the Rust and WASM SDKs. The title is short, single-sentence, and names both new queries. It uses a conventional commit prefix, which is acceptable.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

The query, proof, routing, and SDK layers are otherwise consistently wired, and the completed CI checks covering Rust, JS, WASM, Docker, and mobile components are passing. However, the advertised poll-object convenience APIs derive the poll ID before the SDK's protocol-15 gate runs, so an SDK currently at protocol 13 or 14 cannot probe a network that has already upgraded to protocol 15; the primary convenience path fails locally instead.

In `packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/yes_no_vote_polls.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/yes_no_vote_polls.rs:71-74: Poll-object queries derive the ID before the protocol gate can probe
  `Fetch` and `FetchUnproved` call `query.query(&settings)` before inspecting `needs_protocol_version` and invoking `ensure_network_serves`. For the `YesNoVotePoll` implementation, that first query calls `YesNoVotePollStateQuery::for_vote_poll` with the SDK's current protocol version. On protocol 13 or 14, `unique_id` returns the not-active error, so no wire request is produced and the SDK never probes whether the network has upgraded to protocol 15. The same ordering affects `MasternodeYesNoVoteQuery::for_vote_poll` and the WASM helper at `packages/wasm-sdk/src/queries/voting/yes_no.rs:273-277`. Consequently, the documented poll-object APIs fail for a stale-but-valid SDK even when the network supports these methods, contrary to the protocol-gate behavior tested for raw requests. Keep the poll object or otherwise defer ID derivation until after the gate raises the query settings, or derive the stable protocol-15 ID for request construction and let the existing gate reject networks below 15. Add a test with the SDK at v14 and a network proven at v15 using the rich poll form, asserting that the probe occurs and the request is sent.

In `packages/rs-drive/src/verify/voting/verify_masternode_yes_no_vote/v0/mod.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-drive/src/verify/voting/verify_masternode_yes_no_vote/v0/mod.rs:26-30: Masternode verifier bypasses the inner verifier's version dispatch
  The outer v0 verifier calls `query.verify_identity_yes_no_vote_v0(...)` directly even though `MasternodeYesNoVoteDriveQuery` exposes the version-dispatched `verify_identity_yes_no_vote(...)` method. Both slots select v0 today and the activation tables keep them synchronized, so current behavior is identical. However, a future version bump of the inner verifier would leave this path hard-coded to v0 and could bypass its `VersionNotActive` or `UnknownVersionMismatch` handling. Routing through the dispatcher keeps version selection in one place and avoids having to widen the inner v0 method's visibility for this caller.

An SDK at protocol 14 given a yes/no poll failed locally: it derived the
poll's id while building the first request, before the protocol check, and
no version before 15 derives one. The queries now carry the poll
(QueriedYesNoVotePoll) and derive its id when the request is built; at 14
the first request, which only names the version to ask for, uses the
newest known version's id. FetchUnproved now encodes a gated request
again after the check, as Fetch does, so both paths send the request
built at the version the network proved.

The masternode yes/no verifier now goes through the versioned
verify_identity_yes_no_vote rather than its v0.

Assert the protocol-15 ID in the masternode-vote requests.

The test independently checks the poll-state ID only. The votes expectations use the same query path as the fetch calls, so a protocol-15-only masternode poll-ID regression can make both the expected and sent requests contain the same wrong ID.

The poll form gate test now checks the id in the masternode vote requests
too, not only in the proved poll state request, so a regression in either
query's derivation cannot hide behind expectations built the same way.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

The new yes/no query plumbing is complete across the node, DAPI, Drive, proof verification, SDK, WASM, and generated low-level JavaScript bindings. One public API gap remains: the exported Node and browser PromiseClient wrappers do not expose either new RPC, so JavaScript consumers using the package's documented convenience client receive undefined methods. The supplied Rust workspace check is marked failed, but the available evidence attributes it to runner/server communication; changed JavaScript and DAPI checks passed.

🟡 Suggestion: Expose the new yes/no RPCs through the exported PromiseClient wrappers
packages/dapi-grpc/clients/platform/v0/nodejs/PlatformPromiseClient.js:120-196

The regenerated low-level bindings expose getYesNoVotePollState and getMasternodeYesNoVote, but the public handwritten wrappers do not. The Node wrapper only promisifies and forwards the existing method set in its constructor and defines no methods for either RPC; the browser wrapper at packages/dapi-grpc/clients/platform/v0/web/PlatformPromiseClient.js likewise ends without them. Because packages/dapi-grpc/node.js and browser.js export these PromiseClient classes, new PlatformPromiseClient(...).getYesNoVotePollState(...) and .getMasternodeYesNoVote(...) are undefined even though the underlying generated transports can call the RPCs. Add the request/response conversion imports and forwarding methods to the Node wrapper, add corresponding promise methods to the browser wrapper, and cover both methods in the wrapper tests.

…eClient wrappers

The regenerated transports already serve getYesNoVotePollState and
getMasternodeYesNoVote, but the handwritten Node and browser
PlatformPromiseClient wrappers that node.js and browser.js export did
not forward them, so both methods were undefined on the convenience
client. Add them the way getDocumentHistory was added, and cover the
Node wrapper in its spec.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

The reviewed range correctly exposes the yes/no poll state and masternode-answer queries through gRPC, Drive, DAPI, proof verification, the Rust SDK, WASM, and JavaScript, with protocol-15 gating and consistent proof/path reconstruction. I found no actionable correctness, security, consensus, layering, or API defects at head 6a30da1. The Rust workspace check is marked failed because its nextest step was still in progress when the job terminated, with no failing test reported; formatting, clippy, dependency checks, and build checks passed, so this appears to be incomplete runner infrastructure evidence rather than a code failure.

…2-document-request-version

Brings in #5635, now merged, and the yes/no vote poll queries (#5651).

Conflicts:
- rs-dapi-client grpc.rs: keep PROTOCOL_VERSION_OF_5_1 for the yes/no
  methods; documents_request_needs_protocol_version stays deleted, as a
  document request's gate comes from its query.
- request_inventory.rs: getYesNoVotePollState and getMasternodeYesNoVote
  are Gate(15); composite and chained stay NoGate.
- fetch_unproved.rs: read the requirement from the query, check it, then
  encode once at the version the SDK speaks after the check. This covers
  the re-encode v5.1-dev added for a poll whose id the version derives.
- protocol_gate_tests.rs: keep both sides' tests; the protocol 15 method
  refusal now names no feature (feature: None).
