Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification at head 86355b0 confirms four blocking issues involving broadcast ambiguity, browser timing, identity registration, and Swift ownership, plus one targeted test-coverage gap. The advisory observation model preserves the existing proof-verification boundary and does not gate operations. Current CI reports successful Rust workspace tests, Swift build/tests, and frozen-schema checks; PR Hygiene remains pending, and no builds or tests were run locally.

In `packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs:311-320: Recognize DAPI's broadcast-timeout representation as ambiguous
The classifier excludes the timeout returned by the JavaScript DAPI handler: broadcastStateTransitionHandlerFactory.js:139–141 maps an error containing `context deadline exceeded` to `ResourceExhausted("broadcasting state transition is timed out")`. That branch runs before the `broadcast confirmation not received` mapping. Tenderdash's BroadcastTx can return that confirmation timeout after CheckTx has accepted the transaction, so an exhausted or disabled retry budget reaches this classifier and returns an error without polling the verified wait, even though the transition can execute. Recognize this deployed timeout representation, including retry-exhaustion wrappers. Match the timeout specifically rather than treating all ResourceExhausted responses as ambiguous, because the same DAPI handler uses that code for mempool-full refusals and rate limits. Add a regression using the actual status and message.
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs:281-287: Share the ambiguity policy with identity-create submission
This new broadcast-then-wait helper duplicates an existing submission pattern without updating its identity-create counterpart. Both PutIdentity::put_to_platform_and_wait_for_response_* variants still use put_identity.rs::broadcast_then_wait, whose already_known_is_delivered helper accepts only AlreadyExists. DeadlineExceeded, Unavailable, and SDK timeout errors therefore still return before waiting for the same signed identity-create transition. These methods are used by the identity FFI and register_identity_with_funding; the latter's reconciliation immediately propagates transport errors rather than recovering the identity. A paid registration can consequently execute but be reported as failed, which is the ambiguous-acknowledgement scenario this PR promises to handle. Share the SDK-owned classification with those combined submit-and-wait methods, preserve broadcast-only error behavior, and test an ambiguous acknowledgement followed by a verified identity result.
In `packages/rs-sdk/src/sdk/protocol_compatibility.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-sdk/src/sdk/protocol_compatibility.rs:90-95: Use browser-compatible timing throughout the compatibility lifecycle
Calling this public method on the supported browser wasm32-unknown-unknown target panics at `std::time::Instant::now()`. Replacing the clock alone is insufficient: refresh_protocol_compatibility also unconditionally constructs `tokio::time::timeout_at`, while the browser transport runs on the JavaScript executor without a Tokio timer runtime. The new lifecycle therefore cannot perform its primary operation on that target despite being exposed without a native-only restriction. Keep budget enforcement in rs-sdk, but use target-aware clocks and timeouts, following the existing asset_lock_submission::retry_clock and rs_dapi_client::transport::sleep patterns, or explicitly restrict and document the API as native-only. Browser runtime coverage should invoke both begin and refresh; compilation does not detect these panics.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-sdk/src/sdk/protocol_compatibility.rs:127-129: Cover the proofs-disabled compatibility outcome
The new ProofsDisabled outcome has no lifecycle test. Existing tests cover failed checks, successful checks, superseded attempts, and timeout expiry, but none constructs an SDK with with_proofs(false) and invokes begin followed by refresh. Add a test asserting Unavailable { reason: ProofsDisabled }, no epoch-query dispatch, and no invented verified version. Also assert that previously accepted evidence remains available if the test seeds it before the check.
In `packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/Models/ProtocolCompatibility.swift`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/Models/ProtocolCompatibility.swift:30-34: Keep newer-protocol classification in the Rust owner
The Swift SDK defines the compatibility classification here: whether verified evidence exceeds supported tables, and what missing evidence means. ProtocolCompatibility in rs-sdk has no corresponding predicate, so native callers reconstruct the rule and other bindings would need additional copies. The book's "FFI and mobile SDKs hold no business logic" rule requires wrappers to marshal Rust-owned decisions rather than define them. Implement this informational predicate in rs-sdk and marshal its result through CompatibilitySnapshot so Swift only decodes it. Keep it independent of operation admission.

/self-reviewed Reviewed the final diff at ba33127, including the direct SDK top-up FFI call site and downstream Swift/Kotlin decoders. This addresses the outside-diff SDK-FFI finding in review 5617554394: SDK-FFI code 11 now preserves StateTransitionResultUnconfirmed in both SDKError and SDKCallFailed, including retry envelopes. Timeout/proof/nonce diagnostic text cannot downgrade it to a safe-retry verdict. Existing wallet-FFI code 20, existing codes/layouts and submission/retry behavior are unchanged. 20 FFI tests, 4 Swift decoding/presentation tests, 26 Kotlin mapper tests, full Swift 6 typecheck, and all-feature/all-target rs-sdk-ffi Clippy with warnings denied passed. Final native validation passed: both device/simulator slices, SwiftExampleApp with warnings as errors, and clean dashpay arm64 simulator build at Platform ba33127 / iOS 26b932d56e426ef33c91a608fe43a1914bef7669. Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification of ba33127 confirms one blocking issue: Swift's shared presentation helpers can turn wallet-FFI unconfirmed top-ups into retry advice. Three nonblocking findings remain concerning WASM error typing and stale boundary documentation, and all eleven prior findings have been independently reconciled. No builds or tests were run; current CI reports no failed code checks, with Rust workspace tests and PR Hygiene still pending.

🟡 Suggestion: Do not describe address-funded top-ups as retaining Core UTXO reservations
packages/kotlin-sdk/sdk/src/main/kotlin/org/dashfoundation/dashsdk/errors/DashSdkError.kt:332-343
This PR broadens wallet error code 20 to address-funded identity top-ups, but both this documentation and the appended exception message still promise that the wallet keeps the inputs reserved until sync reconciles the transaction. Platform-address top-ups do not create Core UTXO reservations; their identity and address state must be re-read to reconcile the outcome. Use wording valid for both operation families, warning against another submission until the original operation has been reconciled without promising Core input protections for Platform addresses.

💬 Nitpick: Update JNI offset comment for new error code 11
packages/rs-unified-sdk-jni/src/support.rs:66-78
The PR adds rs-sdk-ffi code 11, but this namespace explanation still states twice that the native SDK codes stop at 10. The corresponding Kotlin documentation has already been updated. Update this comment to include code 11 and the existing InternalError code 99 so future boundary changes use an accurate description of the assigned codes; the offset itself does not need to change.

In `packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/Utils/ErrorHandling.swift`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/Utils/ErrorHandling.swift:329-335: Preserve wallet-FFI code 20 before inferring retryability
This protection handles SDKError.stateTransitionResultUnconfirmed but not PlatformWalletError.transactionBroadcastUnconfirmed, which is what ManagedPlatformWallet.topUpFromAddresses receives through wallet-FFI code 20. The new Rust top-up path deliberately emits that code when submission was accepted or possibly accepted but its result could not be verified. With a diagnostic containing "SDK operation timeout", this error falls through to categorize(), becomes .timeout, and receives isRetryable = true plus "Please try again" recovery advice. ErrorFormatter.userFriendlyMessage also bypasses its new typed protection for this route. Preserve the wallet unconfirmed case before either helper applies diagnostic-string heuristics, and extend TopUpUnconfirmedErrorTests to pass timeout and network diagnostics through these presentation helpers. Another address-funded top-up may execute again after the original, and these inputs have no Core UTXO reservation to prevent it.

In `packages/wasm-sdk/src/error.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/wasm-sdk/src/error.rs:184-188: Keep StateTransitionResultUnconfirmed typed across the WASM/JavaScript boundary
identityTopUpFromAddresses forwards SDK failures through WasmSdkError::with_context, so this conversion exposes a potentially executed top-up as Generic rather than preserving its Rust-owned classification. JavaScript callers using the public kind/name getters cannot distinguish this outcome from unrelated generic failures without parsing the diagnostic message. The conversion correctly keeps isRetriable false, so it does not itself authorize a retry, but it loses the structured information needed to select reconciliation guidance. Append a dedicated WASM error kind, include it in the name mapping, and preserve it through NoAvailableAddressesToRetry envelopes as well.

Update this comment to include code 11 and the existing InternalError code 99 so future boundary changes use an accurate description of the assigned codes; the offset itself does not need to change.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)
These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Keep Swift top-up input buffers borrowed throughout the C call — Addresses.topUpIdentityFromAddresses stores pointers returned from Data.withUnsafeBytes closures in DashSDKAddressTransferInput, then calls dash_sdk_identity_top_up_from_addresses after those borrowing closures have ended. Keeping the Data values in an array does not extend the pointers' validity contract, and Rust dereferences those pointers during the call. This concrete memory-lifetime defect is unchanged from the base revision; the PR changes error propagation, not this marshaling code.
- Follow-up: In a separate change, keep all input-buffer borrowing scopes active through the synchronous FFI call, or use explicitly allocated stable buffers with paired cleanup.

Verified against the current code: this conversion retains isRetriable=false and explicit reconciliation guidance; it does not authorize another submission. A dedicated JavaScript error kind would expand the public API. The owner has explicitly frozen scope at ba33127, so that API enhancement is deferred to a separately authorized change. We are addressing only the confirmed wallet-FFI presentation regression from the blocking finding; no WASM API expansion in this PR.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Still applies (re-reviewed at 2aef9ba1): Your explanation correctly establishes that this mapping retains reconciliation guidance and does not authorize another submission, so the dedicated JavaScript kind remains a nonblocking API recommendation. Keeping it outside the frozen implementation is reasonable, but please link the separately authorized WASM follow-up so its deferral is tracked.

No longer applies (re-reviewed at 4fe9c9ee): StateTransitionResultUnconfirmed and the associated WASM conversion were removed before this reviewed head. The current observation-only diff adds no JavaScript submission outcome.

/self-reviewed Reviewed 2aef9ba. Scope remains frozen: only wallet-error presentation guards, neutral Kotlin wording and existing focused tests changed (4 files); no Rust/API/retry changes. Verified the blocker against the actual C20 decoder and addressed it in the review thread. Swift5/Kotlin26/full Swift6 typecheck, SwiftExample warnings-as-errors and clean companion iOS build passed. Native ba331 artifact remains byte-identical; source and artifact provenance are separate in the description. Static verification of 4545b88..2aef9ba confirms that verified protocol observations remain advisory and combined submissions retain the original signed transition. No blocking defect was confirmed; one DAPI refusal-message mismatch, the WASM structured-error recommendation, and the JNI documentation nit remain. Current CI reports Rust workspace tests, Swift build/tests, Kotlin tests, JS builds/tests, and Docker builds passing; one browser test-suite shard remains pending, and no local builds or tests were run.

The JNI namespace explanation still describes DashSDKErrorCode as 1–10 in two places, although this PR appends StateTransitionResultUnconfirmed = 11 and updates Kotlin's corresponding documentation to 1–11, 99. Update both Rust range descriptions to match the ABI. The offset of 1000 remains correct; there is no runtime collision.

In `packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs:426-428: Recognize DAPI's actual processing-refusal status message
This exception does not recognize the Rust DAPI response it is intended to handle. broadcast_state_transition.rs returns DapiError::Internal with this text, but DapiError::to_status uses Status::internal(self.to_string()), which prefixes the message with `Internal error: `. The actual response therefore falls through to the generic Internal branch and marks the attempt as possibly accepted. When all attempts return this processing refusal, combined APIs perform an unnecessary result wait and can replace the useful refusal with a wait failure. Handle the prefixed Rust DAPI form alongside the legacy form, and update the regression fixture to reproduce the actual wire message while retaining any earlier genuine ambiguity. This is a refusal-reporting and latency issue; it does not itself authorize resubmission or bypass proof verification.

(existing thread: https://github.com/dashpay/platform/pull/5511#discussion_r4352527967)
identityTopUpFromAddresses uses WasmSdkError::with_context, which preserves the kind selected here: a direct unconfirmed result becomes Generic, while NoAvailableAddressesToRetry around it becomes DapiClientError. JavaScript therefore cannot select the Rust-owned unconfirmed classification through kind/name without parsing diagnostic text. The existing false retry flag and reconciliation message are correct, so this is not a retry-safety blocker. A separate additive API change can append a dedicated kind/name and preserve it through retry envelopes without adding JavaScript-side policy. Keeping that enhancement outside the frozen implementation is reasonable, but link a WASM follow-up issue or PR before recording it as deferred; the supplied iOS links do not track this boundary change.

/self-reviewed Reviewed c3ed1b2: only the existing exact processing-refusal comparison and its retry regression changed. Both Rust DAPI prefixed and legacy messages are recognized; prior genuine ambiguity remains sticky. 29 broadcast tests and all-feature/all-target SDK Clippy passed. Native device/simulator, SwiftExample warnings-as-errors and companion clean iOS validation passed at c3ed1b2 / iOS48d1014. No new API, operation family, or retry mechanism. Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification of the complete diff at c3ed1b2 found no remaining blocking defects; two nonblocking suggestions remain concerning structured WASM errors and the DAPI refusal contract. The processing-refusal correction recognizes both wire formats without clearing earlier submission ambiguity, and the prior native error-propagation blockers are addressed. Current exact-head CI reports successful Rust workspace, Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript, Docker and integration checks; Rust wallet tests were skipped, and no builds or tests were run locally.

The corrected comparison matches today's Rust DAPI response, but submission classification now depends on the complete human-readable processing-error message and its display prefix. The condition originates in rs-dapi's handle_duplicate_transaction, which constructs DapiError::Internal, and DapiError::to_status supplies the prefix. Changing that producer's wording would turn this definite local refusal back into an ambiguous result and trigger an unnecessary confirmation wait. Give this condition a dedicated machine-readable status detail or metadata marker in rs-dapi and classify that marker here, retaining the exact text fallback for older nodes. This is transport-contract maintenance rather than a current safety or layering violation; if deferred, link a tracking issue for the producer-side change.

identityTopUpFromAddresses passes SDK failures through with_context, but this conversion exposes StateTransitionResultUnconfirmed as Generic; an enclosing NoAvailableAddressesToRetry instead exposes DapiClientError. JavaScript callers therefore cannot select reconciliation-specific presentation using the existing kind/name interface without parsing diagnostic text. The false retry flag and explicit reconciliation message are preserved, so this is not a resubmission-safety blocker. Append a dedicated kind after the existing enum variants, add its name mapping, and preserve the classification through retry envelopes. Appending avoids renumbering existing JavaScript kind values and only mirrors the Rust-owned outcome; it does not introduce recovery policy. The acknowledged scope freeze needs a linked tracking issue before this suggestion can be recorded as deferred.

Verified that the current exact comparison matches the producer’s actual status, with both supported wire forms covered and earlier genuine ambiguity retained. A machine-readable producer marker would change the rs-dapi/SDK transport contract and add compatibility handling; it is a useful separate improvement, not a current regression in this implementation. Under the owner’s explicit scope freeze I will not add that contract change here. This thread records the recommendation; no follow-up issue or implementation has yet been separately authorized, and I am not marking it implemented or resolving the recommendation.

Thanks for confirming the scope freeze. I agree this is a separate rs-dapi/SDK transport-contract improvement and that the current fallback covers today’s supported wire forms, but the display-string coupling remains untracked. Before I mark this recommendation deferred, please link a tracking issue or say so and I’ll file one in dashpay/rust-dapi.
Not deferred yet: a deferral needs a tracking issue for the follow-up; until then the finding stands.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The Rust, FFI, and Swift protocol-version observation path is correctly layered and preserves the distinction between authenticated observations and the effective SDK operation version. The epoch-query queue migration introduces a real API regression: successful empty epoch results that previously returned [] now throw notFound; the new protocol-info decoder also lets raw DecodingError escape instead of normalizing it to SDKError. Code-focused CI checks pass; PR Hygiene remains pending.

Confirmed against the pre-PR implementation and fixed in 5b89fe8b529c66d5e972880196545c902285258b. Only this query maps a successful nil-data/nil-error FFI result to []; other results still use the existing ownership/error consumer. One Swift closure changed (+5/-2), no new API or helper.
A temporary harness compiling the exact production query, queue and result consumer under Swift 6 with warnings as errors passes 5/5 cases: empty result, typed network error, nonempty array, JSON empty array and wrong JSON type. The same harness at pre-fix 4fe9c9ee reproduces only the empty-result failure (4/5). It also asserts that FFI runs off-main and checks query arguments; allocated strings/errors are freed. The consuming dashpay Testflight arm64 simulator build passes. The correction is also merged into recovery SDK 48490f211b; both app pins are updated.

Acknowledged as an API consistency suggestion. This getter decodes JSON generated locally by the paired Rust FFI; the app handles any thrown error as a failed observation and retains any previously verified advisory. No operation is gated by this result. There is no demonstrated failure in the supported payload path, so under the explicitly frozen scope I am leaving this normalization nitpick unchanged and correcting only the confirmed empty-epoch behavioral regression.

Still applies (re-reviewed at 5b89fe8b): The getter still forwards JSONDecoder failures directly, so malformed protocol metadata bypasses the SDK's usual SDKError.serializationError contract. The paired Rust payload is currently valid, but the boundary remains inconsistent with neighboring Swift helpers.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The final head correctly exposes the Rust-owned, proof-verified protocol observation without changing operation-version selection, and the epoch query restores its valid empty-result behavior. Two non-blocking Swift issues remain: malformed protocol-version JSON and malformed epoch JSON bypass the SDK's standard serialization error, and the empty-result regression lacks a committed regression test. CI has no reported failures, though Rust tests, JS build, Swift schema, Kotlin tests, and PR Hygiene remain pending or in progress.

- [SUGGESTION] packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/FFI/PlatformQueryExtensions.swift:1728-1730: Malformed epochs JSON now surfaces as a raw Foundation error instead of SDKError
The rewritten `getEpochsInfo` path calls `JSONSerialization.jsonObject` with `try` directly. Invalid JSON therefore throws Foundation's raw serialization error, whereas the previous `processJSONArrayResult` path converted the same failure to `SDKError.serializationError("Failed to parse JSON array")`. The valid-but-wrong-shape case on the next line already uses `SDKError.serializationError`, so malformed epochs payloads now have inconsistent error handling.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/FFI/PlatformQueryExtensions.swift:1719-1731: Add a committed regression test for the empty epoch-result fallback
The successful nil-data/nil-error result is now mapped to `[]`, but no committed Swift test exercises that branch. This exact behavior regressed during the PR when the query moved onto the blocking queue, and the temporary harness described in the PR is not part of the repository. A small test seam or recorded FFI result should pin the empty result, typed-error, nonempty-array, and wrong-shape cases so future refactors cannot reintroduce `SDKError.notFound` for a valid empty query.
- [NITPICK] packages/swift-sdk/Sources/SwiftDashSDK/FFI/PlatformQueryExtensions.swift:1710-1714: Normalize protocol-version decoding failures to SDKError
(existing thread: https://github.com/dashpay/platform/pull/5511#discussion_r4363431114)
`protocolVersionInfo()` forwards `JSONDecoder`'s `DecodingError` directly, while neighboring Swift SDK query helpers normalize malformed payloads to `SDKError.serializationError`. A malformed or schema-incompatible FFI payload therefore exposes a different error contract to callers that handle SDK errors. The paired Rust producer currently emits the expected schema, but this public FFI boundary should preserve the SDK's established serialization-error behavior.

Confirmed that malformed JSON would now throw the Foundation decoding error instead of the previous SDKError wrapper. I also checked the current producer: epochs_info.rs builds the JSON locally from typed numeric epoch fields; this is not raw JSON supplied by a remote node. There is no demonstrated malformed-output case in that supported producer path. Under the explicit scope freeze, I am deferring this non-blocking error-normalization suggestion with the analogous protocol-info decoder nitpick. This is not marked fixed.

The typed producer makes malformed JSON unlikely, but it does not remove the FFI boundary or preserve the public error contract: this method now exposes a Foundation decoding error where the previous implementation returned SDKError.serializationError. Since that behavior change is introduced here, the scope freeze does not resolve it; the one-line try? guard would restore the prior normalization while retaining the existing wrong-shape check.

🟡 Suggestion: Add a committed regression test for the empty epoch-result fallback
The successful nil-data/nil-error result is now mapped to [], but no committed Swift test exercises that branch. This exact behavior regressed during the PR when the query moved onto the blocking queue, and the temporary harness described in the PR is not part of the repository. A small test seam or recorded FFI result should pin the empty result, typed-error, nonempty-array, and wrong-shape cases so future refactors cannot reintroduce SDKError.notFound for a valid empty query.

Acknowledged: the deterministic production-method harness is local validation evidence, not a committed regression test or CI guard. It reproduces the old empty-result failure and passes the fixed implementation, including typed-error/nonempty/empty-JSON/wrong-shape cases and off-main execution. The current scope explicitly excludes adding test seams or extra infrastructure; I am retaining the one-closure fix without adding a seam or refactor solely for this non-blocking follow-up. A permanent regression test remains a separate maintainer-approved follow-up, not something claimed complete here.

The scope rationale is reasonable for this non-blocking test-only follow-up, but the deferred work is not linked to an issue or PR. Before I mark this intentionally deferred, please link tracking for the permanent empty-result regression test, or say so and I’ll file it in dashpay/platform.
Not deferred yet: a deferral needs a tracking issue for the follow-up; until then the finding stands.
Issue being fixed or feature implemented
Expose the authenticated network protocol version to iOS so it can show an update advisory for dashpay/dashwallet-ios#1228. The SDK operation version deliberately ignores unknown version tables, so it cannot alone answer whether the network is newer.
What was done?
Read the existing upstream
verified_protocol_versioncache throughProtocolVersionInfo, including the effective operation version, SDK maximum and Rust-computed advisory flag. Add one local JSON FFI getter and a thin Swift decoder. Run the existing proved epoch query through the existing blocking-query queue. This PR now contains only the small observation API. It adds no compatibility state machine, polling, custom timeout, write gating, new error codes, Kotlin/WASM changes or transaction/recovery behavior. Upstream proof/signature/freshness verification and operation-version selection remain unchanged. Unknown proof formats remain ordinary query failures, not evidence of a newer protocol.
The previous recovery changes are preserved separately in draft #5556 (wallet companion: dashpay/dashwallet-ios#1239). Original work is archived locally; history has not been rewritten.

5b89fe8b529c66d5e972880196545c902285258brestores the pre-existing empty-result behavior ofgetEpochsInfo: a successful FFI result with no data returns[]. One Swift closure changed (+5/-2), with no Rust/ABI change. A temporary deterministic harness compiling the actual production methods under Swift 6 with warnings as errors passes 5/5 cases (empty, typed error, nonempty array, JSON empty array, wrong JSON type); the pre-fix revision fails only the empty-result case (4/5). The call remains off-main. The consuming dashpay Testflight arm64 simulator build passes. Existing native framework/checksum evidence below is unchanged and belongs to the stated native build SHA.Local getter test; 16 real signed-response tests, including stale/tampered rejection and verified newer-version observation.
Two FFI tests for null handles, JSON and string/error ownership.
Clippy for dash-sdk and rs-sdk-ffi, all features/targets, warnings denied.
Production Swift controller/banner/model tests pass in App Store and TestFlight configurations in the paired iOS PR.
