fix(drive): add masternode identity keys through a dedicated operation - #5456
Conversation
Keys that masternode list updates add to existing masternode identities (owner payout keys, platform node id keys, operator identity keys) are now added with IdentityOperationType::AddNewKeysToMasternodeIdentity instead of AddNewKeysToIdentity. It emits the same operations, except that a key whose hash is already a unique key hash is added without a non-unique key hash reference, as the keys a masternode identity is created with are. 400-493: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAdd a test for a key whose hash is already a unique key hash.
The test only covers keys that are not unique key hashes. In that case, both operations emit identical output. The new behavior is the omitted reference when the hash is already unique. No test checks that the masternode operation differs from
AddNewKeysToIdentityin this case. The PR description states that this behavior exists, so a regression would go unnoticed.Add a case that inserts a unique key with the same hash on another identity. Then assert that the masternode operation emits fewer operations than
AddNewKeysToIdentity. Also assert that the masternode operation applies without error.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Keeping this change in place on purpose rather than behind a new protocol version.
Gating it behind a new protocol version would only delay the fix without protecting any existing state. |
Addressed in the PR conversation: the change is intentionally in place; behaviour is identical for every input that a committed block can contain.

Issue being fixed or feature implemented
Masternode list updates add keys to existing masternode identities: an owner's new payout key, an evonode's new platform node id key, and operator identity keys. They used
AddNewKeysToIdentity, the operation built for user identity updates, which also inserts a non-unique key hash reference for every key. Masternode identities are created without those references, so keys added to them later should be handled the same way. What was done?
IdentityOperationType::AddNewKeysToMasternodeIdentityandDrive::add_new_keys_to_masternode_identity_operations(versioned, v0), next toadd_new_keys_to_identity.AddNewKeysToIdentityemits, except that a key whose hash is already registered as a unique key hash is added without the non-unique key hash reference, as the keys a masternode identity is created with are.How Has This Been Tested?
AddNewKeysToIdentityat every protocol version: the same low-level drive operations and the same estimated-cost map for keys that are not unique key hashes.cargo test -p drive -p drive-abci: 8889 passed, 0 failed.Breaking Changes
None.
In-place changes to shipped generations
The masternode list update methods selected by protocol versions 1–14 now add keys through the new operation. For every key that is not already a unique key hash the operations are identical. No committed block on any network contains a masternode key that is already a unique key hash, so replaying mainnet and testnet gives the same state.
