Release list
BarNook 0.6.1
Fixed
- Settings › Apps lists apps whose menu bar item belongs to a second process again, such as espanso. BarNook checked only the first process of each app, so these apps were missing from the list.

BarNook 0.6.0
Before you update from 0.5.0 or earlier
BarNook's bundle identifier is now kr.co.devch.BarNook (was com.chlee1001.BarNook). macOS treats it as a new app, so after this update:
- Settings start from the defaults. To keep hidden apps and the Menu Bar and Apps options, use Settings › General › Settings file › Export… in 0.5.0 before updating, then Import… in 0.6.0.
- Accessibility and Screen Recording must be granted again. The old "BarNook" rows in System Settings can be removed.
- Launch at login may need to be turned on again.
- The menu bar icon returns to its default position.
Optional cleanup of the old identifier: defaults delete com.chlee1001.BarNook and tccutil reset All com.chlee1001.BarNook.

BarNook 0.3.0
Highlights
- The clock opens Notification Center in bar mode. BarNook covers the menu bars left of the clock with a picture of themselves. It then lifts the restriction underneath and passes the click through, so hidden items stay off screen. Resting on the clock briefly makes the click faster.
- Hidden items no longer flash in bar mode. Moving the pointer across the clock area used to release the restriction whatever the placement. That caused brief flashes, especially with stacked displays.
- Steadier hiding. BarNook no longer requests an allow-list MenuBarAgent already holds. A failed activation keeps the previous one and is retried. Apps that quit stay allowed, so restarting background agents no longer trigger re-hiding.
- Bar mode:
- a rehide waits while the pointer is over the bar;
- the icon follows the bar's real state;
- a relaunch reopens the bar.
- Menu-bar mode: hovering the clock holds hidden items shown.
Permissions change
BarNook now requires both Accessibility and Screen Recording. Screen Recording is needed to take the picture of the menu bars. On first launch, an onboarding window asks for both, and Settings opens once they are granted.
Known limits
- While the pointer rests on the clock, the menu bars to its left show a still picture, so icon updates there pause until the pointer leaves.
- How quickly Notification Center opens depends on how busy macOS's menu bar process is. On the test machine, a click after a short rest took about 25–500 ms. A click without a rest took about 320–720 ms.
