Aeon Connect (https://www.aeon.fun/connect) now sets up an instance from the browser: sign in with GitHub, create your repo (public fork or private copy), install the Aeon Connect GitHub App on that one repo, connect a model, pick skills. Nothing in this repo mentioned it. This PR makes it the first path everywhere a "how to start" appears.

Path order everywhere: 1. Aeon Connect (browser), 2. coding-agent paste line, 3. ./aeon init (terminal), 4. manual (inside the existing "by hand" details).

Fork vs template, made consistent: Aeon Connect forks public instances and turns Actions on itself; ./aeon init and the manual path use the template (a template copy starts with Actions on). The blanket "use the template, never fork" wording is gone.

By surface

  • README (.github/README.md): new "Run now" button (docs/assets/btn-run.svg) in the top row and a "Start in your browser" callout; quick start leads with Aeon Connect; terminal path moved into "Prefer the terminal?"; manual step 1 rewritten; "Authenticate" renamed "Connect a model"; "No admin rights" points to Aeon Connect; Configure notes hosted instances need no PAT to start.
  • Quick start image (docs/assets/quickstart-aeon.jpg): regenerated as Sign in -> Connect -> Pick -> Run, same size, alt text matches.
  • docs/CONFIGURATION.md: two-repo strategy rewritten for public fork vs private copy plus aeon-update; cross-repo access says Aeon Connect instances only need GH_GLOBAL for cross-repo skills; "Authenticate modal" -> "Connect modal (Connect a model)".
  • .github/SECURITY.md: no more "private fork" advice (GitHub forbids it); GH_GLOBAL aligned to the classic PAT in CONFIGURATION; Aeon Connect App scope and key handling; aeon-update for staying current.
  • .github/CONTRIBUTING.md: fork to contribute; run an agent via Aeon Connect or ./aeon init.
  • Operator skill (.claude/skills/aeon and plugin/skills/aeon, kept in sync): Mode 1 opens with the Aeon Connect path; template line fixed; secrets reference points to the Connect modal.
  • docs: aeon-setup (four front doors), harnesses, SHOWCASE (setup floor), ADK (Aeon Connect as the live reference implementation).
  • llms.txt: intro and setup section lead with Aeon Connect; docs/help.md description fixed (it is the Telegram /help text).
  • CLI and scripts: aeon --help, aeon init --help, the gh-missing hint, ./aeon preflight errors, bin/onboard fix hints all mention https://www.aeon.fun/connect. init.ts header comment fixed.
  • skills/install-skill: stale "bin/onboard enables the setting" line fixed (onboard is read-only).
  • Issue templates: setup help link mentions Aeon Connect; new "Hosted (Aeon Connect)" option under "Where did it run?".
  • READMEs: plugin, apps/cli, apps/dashboard link the hosted version.
  • CHANGELOG: Unreleased entry for the Aeon Connect launch (aeon-connect improve(startup-idea): autoresearch evolution #58-improve(research-brief): autoresearch evolution #62).

Checks run locally

  • node scripts/validate-readme-catalog.mjs: OK (6 packs / 85 skills)
  • bash scripts/check-aeon-skill-sync.sh: OK
  • bash scripts/tests/test_credential_manifest.sh: 266 checks passed
  • bash -n aeon bin/onboard: OK
  • apps/cli/aeon --help and init --help render the new lines

Not in this PR: dashboard UI copy (the top-bar "Auth" button rename to "Connect a model" and checklist changes) lands separately, mirrored from aeon-connect.

Dashboard mirror (apps/dashboard)

Ports the shared UI changes from aaronjmars/aeon-connect#63 so the local and hosted dashboards match:

  • Setup checklist: new "Skills picked" row (any enabled skill beyond heartbeat; action opens Packs). "Notifications" now opens a Telegram / Discord / Slack / Email chooser instead of always Telegram. New lib/onboarding-checklist.test.ts.
  • One term for the model step: top-bar "Auth" button, checklist action and run-gate toast all say "Connect a model".
  • Connect modal Claude hint points to the HQ "Why?" toggle instead of warning that subscription tokens get rejected (verified working on GitHub-hosted runners). The local ./aeon auth hint stays.
  • Settings view renamed "Keys" (sidebar, heading, tooltips). HQ empty state points at Run; import modal says "Add skill".
  • Docs and operator skill references (both copies) now say "Connect a model" and "Keys".

Checks: dashboard tests 302/302, typecheck clean, lint 0 errors, next build passes.

Aeon Connect (https://www.aeon.fun/connect) sets up an instance from the
browser. Make it the first path everywhere a "how to start" appears, keep
the coding-agent paste line second and ./aeon init third, and resolve the
fork-vs-template contradiction (Aeon Connect forks public instances and
turns Actions on; ./aeon init and the manual path use the template).

README: Run now button, new quick start and image, configure note.
Docs: CONFIGURATION, SECURITY, CONTRIBUTING, aeon-setup, harnesses,
SHOWCASE, ADK, llms.txt, CHANGELOG. Operator skill (both copies),
install-skill, CLI help, ./aeon and bin/onboard hints, issue templates.
Ports the shared-component changes from aaronjmars/aeon-connect#63 into
apps/dashboard so the local and hosted dashboards match:

- Setup checklist: new "Skills picked" row (any enabled skill beyond
heartbeat, action opens Packs); "Notifications" opens a Telegram /
Discord / Slack / Email chooser instead of always Telegram.
- One term for the model step: the top-bar "Auth" button, checklist
action and run-gate toast now all say "Connect a model".
- Claude hint in the Connect modal points at the HQ "Why?" toggle
instead of warning that subscription tokens get rejected. The local
  ./aeon auth hint stays.
- Settings view renamed Keys (sidebar, heading, tooltips).
- HQ empty state points at Run; import modal says "Add skill".
- Docs and the operator skill references say "Connect a model" and
  "Keys" to match.
The CLI tsconfig compiles ../dashboard/lib/**/*.ts without --jsx, and the
new onboarding-checklist test imports the checklist component (.tsx).
The dashboard job still typechecks and runs it.
