fix: preserve native memory query types and errors - #56
With a memory quota enabled, rtMemGetInfoEx previously skipped the native query and returned identical successful quota values for every memory type. A 512 MiB huge-page pool, an empty pool and a native error could all appear to have the full configured quota available.
Call CANN with the original type and output pointers, return native failures unchanged, and clamp successful results to the existing per-card quota view:
CANN retains responsibility for page/pool selection, HBM-to-DDR mapping and unsupported-feature behavior. Smaller or empty native pools remain smaller or empty. This also means successful reports can be lower than the previous synthetic quota view when the physical pool is constrained. All types share the existing card ledger; this does not introduce per-type accounting.
Fixes#55. Follows up the memory-type omission reported in #18 and #19. Configuration validation and the spatial fork guard still run before the native call; quota lookup keeps #50's cold-query path without applying spatial compute budgets. No shared-memory or exported ABI change is required.
Validation
A new integration runner preloads the actual built library against a separate fake runtime. It checks 17 cases: aggregate/DDR/page/P2P capacities, zero-capacity pools, native errors and output validation, quota exhaustion and overhead, logical-to-physical card mapping, unlimited/unconfigured passthrough, unavailable current device and cold spatial queries. Each case checks that the native query runs exactly once with the original type. Fourteen cases fail on unchanged main@83b3a75; all 17 pass with the fix.
Linux ARM64 / Rust 1.94.0: formatting, strict Clippy, the complete bash scripts/ci.sh workflow and 74 documentation links passed. The new runner is included in CI. The DCMI fixture now supplies a realistic native capacity above its configured quota, while its helper-bypass expectations remain native.
The runtime/DCMI backends are mocked. No real CANN/driver, Ascend hardware or framework cold-start/performance validation was performed for this patch.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Memory queries preserve the runtime’s pool mapping and errors. With a quota enabled, reported free and total memory are capped by the applicable limits; free memory accounts for a 128 MiB overhead, and empty pools report zero.
Queries for page types on the same card share quota accounting. Queries without a valid current logical device return uncapped runtime values. Spatial compute budgets do not affect reported memory.
Documentation
Updated English and Chinese configuration guidance to describe memory-query behavior and quota calculations.
Query the native runtime before applying per-card quota limits so pool-specific capacities, unavailable pools and native validation errors retain their meaning. Clamp successful reports without initializing spatial compute budgets.
Add actual-preload regression cases for query types, native errors, output validation, quota boundaries, physical-card routing and cold queries, and include them in CPU CI.

The memory-query hook now calls the native API before applying configured HBM quota caps. It preserves native errors and unconfigured results, and caps successful results by native pool values and quota limits. Fake-runtime tests, CI coverage, and English and Chinese documentation were added or updated.
Changes: Memory Query Quota Handling

Summary
Native query and quota handling crates/hook/src/hook.rs, docs/configuration.md, docs/configuration.zh-CN.md
The hook queries the native runtime with the requested memory type before applying quota caps. It preserves native errors and unconfigured results. For successful queries on HBM-limited devices, it caps free and total values. The configuration guides describe native query handling and quota calculations.
The fake runtime and probe test native results, output validation, quota limits, device mapping, and pass-through cases. CI runs the test runner against the release library. The DCMI helper expectations and English and Chinese testing tables were updated.

The change is mergeable with bounded test follow-up. Clarify the cold-query assertion’s limits and add negative-device fallback coverage; neither finding establishes a current runtime failure.

Explanation
[#55] rtMemGetInfoEx preserves configuration validation and the spatial fork guard, then calls the native query with the original memInfoType, free, and total pointers. It returns native failures before quota processing. Configured successful queries clamp native values through the existing per-card quota ledger. Unconfigured, unlimited, unavailable-device, and native-error paths remain native. A rabbit checks the memory pool, Native values set the rule. Quota caps the totals right, Errors keep their native might. Tests hop through each query case, Then nibble carrots, pleased with pace.
rtMemGetInfoEx applies the quota clamp to every pool type. The suite checks the clamp only for kind 1. Every other case returns native values below both caps. A change that removes the clamp for other pool types would pass the suite.
Add a case whose native free and total exceed both caps.

Add a non-kind-1 pool case to the memory-info tests with native free and total
values above both quota caps, and assert the clamped results. Update the runtime
test fixture to provide those above-cap native values for that pool type, so the
test verifies the quota clamp rather than native values below the caps.
Add a configured zero-quota case that leaves per-card SHM uninitialized.
Add a configured zero-quota case that leaves per-card SHM uninitialized.
Every configured case in test/memory_info/run.py runs probe, and probe.c sets initialized on the local domains before it calls rtMemGetInfoEx. The unlimited case therefore never queries uninitialized per-card SHM. In a configured process, rtMemGetInfoEx resolves the per-card limiter before it checks the quota. That resolution waits for initialized == 1. No test covers this path.
Add a probe option that skips the local-domain writes in domain(), and add a configured NPU_MEMORY_LIMIT_MB=0 case that uses it. The supervisor starts publishing only after its 3-second startup delay, so the subprocess timeout must cover that delay. Publication occurs only when ContainerManager::new completes under the fake runtime. Confirm that the supervisor path succeeds in the fake environment before you choose the expected values. If it does not, extend the fake backend first.

Update the probe’s domain setup to support skipping local-domain initialization,
then add a configured zero-quota case in test/memory_info/run.py that uses this
option and allows enough time for supervisor startup and publication. Verify the
expected result from the fake-runtime supervisor path before asserting values;
if that path cannot publish, update the fake backend to support it while
preserving existing test behavior.
Document native passthrough when no valid current logical device is available in both languages. Bound each memory-query fixture compilation to 60 seconds.

Addressed the two remaining test suggestions in af768ae. A non-kind-1 pool now exceeds both quota caps and must be clamped. The configured zero-quota case starts with uninitialized per-card SHM, lets the real in-process supervisor publish it, and checks the manager PID and initialized flag after the query. All 19 Linux preload memory-query cases pass with the fake runtime; Rust formatting and workspace Clippy also pass. No NPU hardware validation was performed.
Correct the cold-query comment. The post-return read cannot prove ordering.
assert_supervisor_published reads shared memory after rtMemGetInfoEx returns. This read cannot show that the query waited for publication. If a regressed query returns before for_device completes, the supervisor can publish within that gap, and the publication checks can pass. The current comment states a guarantee that the probe does not provide. This affects test strength only and does not indicate a runtime defect.

The existing no-current-device case covers only an error from rtGetDevice. Add a case where the fake runtime returns success with -1. With the guard intact, the query returns native values. If the guard is removed, -1 reaches physical_device and the probe exits with status 78.

Add a `negative-current-device` case alongside `no-current-device` in the test
cases, configuring `FAKE_DEVICE` to `-1` while expecting successful status and
the existing native memory values. Keep the error-return case intact so both
no-device paths are covered.
