The JOSS paper is now in pre-review. The editorialbot has identified missing/incorrect components for the JOSS paper format:

  • A few missing/incorrectly formatted DOIs
  • Missing a State of the field section

This PR addresses these missing components. The "State of the field" section is largely the same content as before but is now explicitly sign-posted. I have also made one small phrasing change ("By way of further innovation...") to make clear how we're building on previous tools.
