Adds gb300-nvke-ubuntu-training: the bare-metal gb300-generic-ubuntu-training component shape rooted under the NVKE service, with the fabric reshaped from k8s-launch-kit discovery on the Firmus GB300 tenant: no ofedDriver (inbox mlx5_core, no DOCA-OFED on the image), shared-HCA RoCE over four ConnectX-8 rails with per-rail macvlan attachments via nv-ipam, delivered by a new manifest-only macvlan-rdma-networks component.
Stacked on #3295 (feat/nvke-gb200-ubuntu-training), which introduces the nvke service and base overlay; retarget to main once that merges.
Motivation / Context
NVKE GB300 trays (Firmus, Supermicro ARS-121GL-NB3-LCC-FG001) run OVN-Kubernetes on the inbox Mellanox driver via BlueField-3. Applying gb300-generic-ubuntu-training installs DOCA-OFED, which unloads that driver and drops the node's primary address (same failure #3294 documents for GB200). This leaf keeps everything else from the generic GB300 recipe and removes the OFED install.
Other: registry component macvlan-rdma-networks with health check; KWOK profile (kwok/profiles/nvke/accelerated-gb300.yaml)
Implementation Notes
Fabric from l8k discover v26.7.0 on firmus-tenant8. Four ConnectX-8 SuperNIC PFs (deviceID 1023) at 0000/0002/0010/0012:03:00.0, one rail each (dual-plane collapsed), link type Ethernet; the BlueField-3 (a2dc) is the north-south port in zero-trust mode. DOCA-OFED is not on the image (checked twice on tenant8, 2026-10-23): mlx5_core/mlx5_ib/ib_core/ib_uverbs load from the kernel tree, no ofed_info, no MFT. Same posture as the GB200 leaf: inbox driver, no ofedDriver, because a DOCA container replacing mlx5_core takes the OVN-managed node address with it and a one-node tenant cannot be drained for a driver rollout. The recipe does not need OFED and works unchanged on an image that ships it.
Shared HCA, not SR-IOV. l8k defaults the tray to SR-IOV numVfs: 8, but the CX-8 firmware reports sriov_totalvfs = 1 and the recipe may not rewrite firmware. So: rdmaSharedDevicePlugin with one resource per rail (rdma/rdma_shared_resource_rail_<n>, selected by PCI address, linkTypes: ether), the l8k rdma_shared --fabric ethernet --multirail shape. Dropped relative to generic GB300: ofedDriver, nicConfigurationOperator and the Maintenance Operator.
New component macvlan-rdma-networks (manifest-only, modeled on the GB200 leaf's sriov-ib-networks): per rail one nv-ipam IPPool in 10.255.<4n>.0/22 (l8k's default 192.168.0.0/22 rails overlap the OVN pod network 192.168.0.0/16) and one MacvlanNetwork in bridge mode over the rail PF with mtu: 0. Separate from network-operator because the nv-ipam CRDs exist only after the NicClusterPolicy reconciles. MacvlanNetwork.master is a netdev name, so the manifest is tray-specific.
Single tainted control-plane GPU node. The NicClusterPolicy DaemonSets tolerate node-role.kubernetes.io/control-plane; GPU Operator and nodewright take it through --accelerated-node-toleration (documented). The control-plane affinity exclusion from the first commit is gone, since on tenant8 the control plane is the GPU node.
rdma-modules in RoCE form (rdma-ulp-roce.yaml): tenant8 does not load rdma_ucm, so /dev/infiniband/rdma_cm is missing and the rdma-shared device plugin would advertise no rail resource, which blocks the expected-resources gate forever. The new manifest loads rdma_ucm and ib_umad (no ib_ipoib, pods get macvlan netdevs) and drops the GB200 manifest's control-plane exclusion, since the tenant's control plane is its only GPU tray. Ordered before network-operator and gpu-operator via dependencyRefs. GPU Operator cannot do this: it only loads nvidia* modules; Network Operator only loads modules through ofedDriver.
Everything else is the generic GB300 leaf: operator-installed driver, toolkit, gdrcopy, MOFED_ENABLED=false, nvidia-tuned GB300 with no service, NFD with the NVIDIA NIC values, nccl-all-reduce-bw-nvls >= 823 copied until an NVKE baseline exists.
Open items for on-cluster verification (listed as known gaps in the setup doc):
tenant8 already ran GPU Operator, NFD and the DRA driver before this recipe; who owns the GPU stack on an NVKE tenant decides whether those components take over or get disabled.
Multus preinstalled is assumed from NVKE GB200, not confirmed on GB300.
The inbox-driver and missing-rdma_ucm findings are from one node on one image build; a later image that loads the module or ships DOCA-OFED makes rdma-modules a no-op.
Spectrum-X: undetectable from the host; if the fabric is Spectrum-X the Network Operator needs the RA profile this recipe does not carry.
East-west rails on tenant8 have no carrier, so no data-plane or NCCL evidence yet.
Testing
go run ./cmd/aicr recipe --service nvke --accelerator gb300 --os ubuntu --intent training # resolves, 16 components
go run ./cmd/aicr bundle -r recipe.yaml -o bundle # 009-rdma-modules before 010-gpu-operator and 012-network-operator; 013-network-operator-post (NicClusterPolicy, no ofedDriver); 014-macvlan-rdma-networks (4 IPPools + 4 MacvlanNetworks)
make update-goldens && make recipe-health-docs && make bom-docs
go test -count=1 ./pkg/recipe/ ./pkg/bundler/ ./recipes/ ./validators/deployment/ ./pkg/bom/... ./pkg/collector/... # ok
bash kwok/scripts/lib/profile-select_test.sh # 38/38
make lint # ok
No live-cluster validation yet; this needs the Firmus GB300 tenant with the east-west fabric linked up. No Go source changes; coverage gate not applicable.

This change adds the gb300-nvke-ubuntu-training recipe, its KWOK node profile, GPU and network configuration, and performance and conformance checks. It adds shared-HCA RoCE configuration with per-rail macvlan networks and a readiness check. Recipe coverage and generated records now include the GB300 NVKE coordinate. Documentation describes setup requirements and lists the recipe in Preview references and the recipe health summary.
NVIDIA/aicr#3384 — The setup guide names Firmus CBR01 and describes its internal NVKE network layout, which relates to the issue’s request to remove internal cluster and network references from public docs.
NVIDIA/aicr#2689 — The recipe enables nccl-all-reduce-bw-nvls and sets a performance threshold.
NVIDIA/aicr#3389 — The change adds an NVKE recipe and conformance checks, but reports no live-cluster validation.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 9a4e8
This adds a Preview NVKE GB300 recipe whose RoCE networking has several unresolved correctness risks. The per-rail RDMA resources may not isolate individual HCAs. Network attachment ordering and readiness checks may not catch missing or late resources. GPU nodes may schedule workloads before RDMA modules load. These should be resolved or explicitly accepted before merge. The PR also reports no live-cluster validation.

Assert readiness for each named rail network.
Chainsaw accepts this unnamed assert when at least one MacvlanNetwork is ready. The error operation checks existing non-ready objects, but cannot find a missing rail. If only rail 0 exists and is ready, the check can pass while the other three attachments are absent. Assert macvlan-network-rail-0 through macvlan-network-rail-3 by name. (kyverno.github.io)

Gate macvlan-rdma-networks on IPPool CRD establishment.
The registry states that the nv-ipam CRDs exist only after NicClusterPolicy reconciliation. This policy has aicr/disable-wait: "true", and dependencyRefs only orders manifest submission. A fresh-cluster deployment can submit the IPPool resources before Kubernetes recognizes their kind and fail. Add an explicit CRD-readiness barrier between network-operator and macvlan-rdma-networks.

Use a selector supported by the pinned RDMA device plugin.
network-operator-v26.7.0 decodes the configuration into a Selectors type that has no pciAddresses field. Go's JSON decoder ignores that unknown field. Each resource therefore applies only the identical vendor, device-ID, and link-type filters, so each can expose all matching Ethernet devices instead of one rail.
Replace pciAddresses with a supported per-rail selector using the actual interface names, then verify that each resource exposes only its intended HCA.

<title>Runtime Required | NVIDIA NodeWright</title>

<excerpt>citeturn0search0 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 2 weeks ago; The check is for any `nodewright.nvidia.com/*` annotation, so once any NodeWright has touched a node, auto-taint never considers it new again.
# What it is
Ask a question|Copy page|View as Markdown|More actions
Runtime required is a special mode that packages can be run in. This mode is for when a set of Packages must complete before any other workloads are allowed to run on the node.
## How to use it
## Pre-requisites
1. The node MUST carry the runtime-required taint. There are two ways to get there, and only the first requires the node to join already tainted:
1. Pre-taint at provisioning (recommended). The node joins the cluster already carrying the taint, via the kubelet `--register-with-taints` flag or your provisioner. Nothing can schedule on the node before the taint exists.
2. `autoTaintNewNodes: true` (fallback). The operator applies the taint itself to new nodes matching the NodeWright’s selector, so the node does not have to join with it. Use this when you cannot control tainting at provisioning time, and note the race window described in Auto-tainting new nodes.
2. The operator MUST recognise that taint. It recognises two:
1. the taint set as the chart value `controllerManager.manager.env.runtimeRequiredTaint`, which defaults to `nodewright.nvidia.com=runtime-required:NoSchedule`
2. for the deprecation window only, the legacy `skyhook.nvidia.com=runtime-required:NoSchedule` taint, whatever the chart value is
Recognition matters for both paths: a taint the operator does not recognise is never removed, so the node stays unschedulable. `autoTaintNewNodes` applies only the configured taint, never the legacy one.
So during the deprecation window the node taint and the chart value do not have to match: a cluster whose nodes still join with the legacy key keeps working without touching the chart, and a cluster on the new key works out of the box. You only need to set `runtimeRequiredTaint` explicitly if your nodes join with some other key. See Taint key rename for what to migrate and by when.
## Taint key rename: `skyhook.nvidia.com` -> `nodewright.nvidia.com`
The default runtime-required taint key moved from `skyhook.nvidia.com` to `nodewright.nvidia.com` as part of the Skyhook -> NodeWright rename. This is a coordinated change, not a cosmetic default bump: the taint key is named by infrastructure the operator cannot see, and a node carrying a key the operator does not recognise is never untainted, so it sits unschedulable. The deprecation window below exists precisely so that moving the default does not create that situation: during the window the legacy key is still recognised, so it is not a “wrong” key.
During the deprecation window the operator:
* applies only the configured taint (`runtimeRequiredTaint`, defaulting to the `nodewright.nvidia.com` key)
* tolerates both the configured taint and the legacy `skyhook.nvidia.com=runtime-required:NoSchedule` taint, so package pods still schedule onto legacy-tainted nodes
* removes both from a node once every `runtimeRequired: true` NodeWright targeting it has completed on it
* treats a node that already carries either taint as already gated, so `autoTaintNewNodes` does not stamp a second taint on it
That means a cluster whose provisioner still applies the legacy key keeps working with no change, and a cluster on the new key works immediately.
### What you need to update
Anywhere outside the operator that names the taint key:
* Cluster autoscaler / Karpenter node pool definitions and any `--register-with-taints` kubelet arguments, so new nodes come up carrying the new key
* Machine or node templates in your provisioning stack
* Tolerations on your own workloads that were written against the legacy key
If you cannot change your provisioning config yet, pin the old behavior explicitly instead of relying on the deprecation window:

## Targeting: which nodes get this
Three mechanisms decide whether a given node is worked on, and they compose in this order:
1. `nodeSelectors` picks the candidate set out of the whole cluster.
2. The deployment policy (or `interruptionBudget`) decides which of those candidates are in the current batch.
3. The ignore label blocks individual nodes that were selected anyway.
### `spec.nodeSelectors`

nodeSelectors:
operator: Exists
effect: NoSchedule
Package pods must tolerate every taint on a target node or they will not schedule. A node whose taints are not tolerated is marked `blocked` and the NodeWright reports a `TaintNotTolerable` condition — that condition is usually the answer when a node is selected but nothing happens on it. The operator adds a set of default tolerations on your behalf; these are additive to those.
See Taints for the defaults and the common symptoms.
### `spec.runtimeRequired` and `spec.autoTaintNewNodes`
spec:
runtimeRequired: true
autoTaintNewNodes: true
`runtimeRequired: true` declares that this NodeWright must be complete on a node before general workloads may run there. Nodes are expected to join the cluster already carrying the runtime-required taint; the operator removes it only once the work is done.
`autoTaintNewNodes` lets the operator apply that taint itself to new matching nodes — where “new” means a node carrying no `nodewright.nvidia.com/*` annotations. It is a one-way judgement: once the operator has touched a node, it is never “new” again, so this does not retroactively protect existing nodes and does not re-taint a node you have reset by hand.
Prerequisites, the taint key rename, and what `runtimeRequired` will not do: Runtime Required.

* Runtime Required: requires node to come into the cluster with a taint, and will do work prior to removing custom taint.
* Resource Management: NodeWright uses Kubernetes LimitRange to set default CPU and memory requests/limits for all containers in its namespace. You can override these defaults per-package in your NodeWright CR. Strict validation is enforced: if you set any resource override, you must set all four fields (cpuRequest, cpuLimit, memoryRequest, memoryLimit), and limits must be >= requests. See docs/operations/resource-management.md for details and examples.
* Explicit Uninstall: controlled, explicit uninstall of packages from nodes with `uninstall.enabled` and `uninstall.apply` fields, webhook guards, finalizer-driven cleanup on CR deletion, and cancel support.

### `CleanupSCRMetadata` can over-delete annotations when a NodeWright name collides with a taint-key suffix
Unlikely, operational. During CR-delete cleanup (`HandleFinalizer` Phase 3), `CleanupSCRMetadata` removes any `nodewright.nvidia.com/*` annotation or label whose key ends with `_<name>`. That suffix-match also catches the `nodewright.nvidia.com/autoTaint_<taintKey>` annotation written by `AutoTaintNewNodes` — but only if the NodeWright’s name exactly equals the taint key’s value. In practice both sides are user-chosen strings; a collision requires a NodeWright named to match a taint key (e.g., a NodeWright literally named `runtime-required` in a cluster where the runtime-required taint uses that string).
Impact if it happens. The `autoTaint_*` annotation is removed when the NodeWright is deleted, losing the audit trail of which nodes were auto-tainted. The taint itself is a separate concern (managed by `HandleAutoTaint`) and is not affected. In real clusters this is almost never reachable because NodeWright names tend to be descriptive (`gpu-drivers`, `kernel-tune`) while taint keys tend to be namespaced (`nvidia.com/gpu`, `skyhook.nvidia.com`).

<title>nodewright/docs/getting-started/migration.md at main · NVIDIA/nodewright · GitHub</title>
<location>https://github.com/NVIDIA/nodewright/blob/main/docs/getting-started/migration.md</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search4 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last month; Available now: the `nodewright.nvidia.com` API group and CRDs, the mirror controller that pre-creates a `NodeWright`/`DeploymentPolicy` for each legacy object, new-group admission webhooks, legacy deprecation warnings, the primary reconciler reconciling `NodeWright`, the on-node annotation/label/condition copy to the `nodewright.nvidia.com/*` prefix on upgrade (so packages are not re-run), the deferred rollback-safe cleanup of the legacy-labeled package pods and per-node ConfigMaps (gated by `LEGACY_CLEANUP_DELAY`), the runtime migration hold that waits while any legacy `Skyhook` is non-complete, the renamed CLI plugin (binary `kubectl-nodewright`), and the Helm chart shipping both groups' CRDs and RBAC. ... The legacy `Skyhook`/`DeploymentPolicy` is read-only once migrated; operate the `NodeWright`. ... This is the single date every transition-only behavior keys off: the legacy API group, the per-node metadata prune, the legacy runtime-required taint key (see runtime_required.md), and the legacy `skyhook_*` metric names (see Metrics below) all end together in v0.20.0.
Pruning is the point of no return: after it runs, rolling back to the pre-rename operator would re-apply every package from scratch.
Your own `skyhook.nvidia.com/*` node keys are not touched. The metadata prefix is the product's domain name, so you may well have your own labels or annotations under it (a `skyhook.nvidia.com/pool` feeding a `nodeSelectors`, say). The migration only copies and later prunes the keys the operator itself writes: the `nodeState_`, `status_`, `version_`, `cordon_`, `drainStart_`, and `autoTaint_` annotations, the `status_` label, the operator-defined `ignore` label, and the `<name>/NotReady` and `<name>/Erroring` conditions. Anything else under the prefix is yours and is left exactly as it is, on both halves.
The runtime-required taint key is not part of this copy-and-prune flow, and taints already on nodes are never rewritten. Its default did move in the rename, from `skyhook.nvidia.com=runtime-required:NoSchedule` to `nodewright.nvidia.com=runtime-required:NoSchedule`. The operator applies only the configured key, but tolerates and removes both for the deprecation window, so nodes stamped with the legacy key by an autoscaler or node template are not stranded unschedulable. Update your provisioning config before operator v0.20.0; see runtime_required.md.
This is transition-only behavior and is removed together with the `skyhook.nvidia.com` group in operator v0.20.0.

Pin the RDMA NodeWright CR ahead of the tuning CR, or pre-taint the GB300 nodes.
The comment says the RDMA CR gates GPU nodes before other NodeWright work. The tuning CR is ordered before it, and both CRs enable autoTaintNewNodes. NodeWright documents that auto-taint never treats a node as new after any nodewright.nvidia.com/* annotation exists. A node the tuning CR touches first therefore would not receive the RDMA CR's auto-taint. Its workloads could then schedule before rdma_ucm loads.
The overlay order is nodewright-customizations before rdma-modules, both listed as dependencies of gpu-operator. Pre-tainting nodes at provisioning avoids this race. That is the documented recommended path.

gb300-nvke-ubuntu-training: the bare-metalgb300-generic-ubuntu-trainingcomponent shape rooted under the NVKE service, with the fabric reshaped from k8s-launch-kit discovery on the Firmus GB300 tenant: noofedDriver(inboxmlx5_core, no DOCA-OFED on the image), shared-HCA RoCE over four ConnectX-8 rails with per-rail macvlan attachments via nv-ipam, delivered by a new manifest-onlymacvlan-rdma-networkscomponent.Stacked on #3295 (
feat/nvke-gb200-ubuntu-training), which introduces thenvkeservice and base overlay; retarget tomainonce that merges.Motivation / Context
NVKE GB300 trays (Firmus, Supermicro ARS-121GL-NB3-LCC-FG001) run OVN-Kubernetes on the inbox Mellanox driver via BlueField-3. Applying
gb300-generic-ubuntu-traininginstalls DOCA-OFED, which unloads that driver and drops the node's primary address (same failure #3294 documents for GB200). This leaf keeps everything else from the generic GB300 recipe and removes the OFED install.Fixes: N/A
