Kilo version: 7.2.49
Environment: VS Code remote Linux
Problem: MCP installs stay stuck on “Installing...”
Cause: install flow appears to parse JSONC config as strict JSON.
Evidence: installMcp -> readConfig throws SyntaxError: Expected double-quoted property name in JSON...
Repro:
Put valid JSONC comments in global Kilo config.
Try installing MCP from Marketplace (for example Sequential Thinking via NPX).
Install hangs/fails.
Expected:
JSONC is accepted if file extension/config type is JSONC.
If parse fails, show explicit error in UI with file path and line/column.
Actual:
Silent/opaque install failure behavior (“Installing...”).
Workaround:
Remove JSONC comments and strict-JSON-invalid syntax from global config.
Suggested fix:
Parse JSONC with a JSONC parser in config load path.
Add validation step before install starts.
Surface actionable error toast/output with file, line, and parse reason.
