The controls here take so much of the vertical screen space that there is virtually none left for the terminal:

Each button could be made significantly more vertically compact. Also the presets and F keys could be placed on the same row, and in general a lot of vertical padding between items could be reduced.

Agree! There's an open PR with some good ideas for the lower/footer area and the keyboard. I'll work on this in the upcoming days

Thanks @aspiers, this landed in 1.8.1. The Keys tray is now one seven-column pad with the digits, presets and F keys folded into chips below it, which takes it from 275 to 119 pixels on a 390-wide phone, and it stays inside the width down to 316. The dense layout in PR #183 is a separate, opt-in idea that is still open and does not need to land for this to be fixed. I'm closing this one on 1.8.1. If the tray still crowds the mirror on your phone after updating, reopen it with a screenshot and the phone model.
