Research: Set up regular database backups

Description

It would be good to make backups of our database at regular intervals, so that if something happens to the database and/or to Render more broadly, we still have a way to recover our users' data.

Look into the Render "Recovery" and export functionality. Seems like we may be able to have a cron job in Render that could save out db backups.

Note: Currently, Render allows us to access the state of our database at any time within the last 7 days.

Where do you want to store the additional backups? Maybe an S3 bucket? Make sure it is locked down.

Yeah, I was imagining S3 or some other cloud storage

Legacy has a good backup system.
Current: we have a backup for a week, automatically.

Johannes suggests a standard may be weekly, monthly, and annual. We have this in Legacy.

We are doing some of this work now. I'm pulling the issue off because it seems difficult to justify prioritizing over other things at the moment.
