Next Steps

It's been a few days since the launch. Now that the CI is fully up and running, we'll focus on 3 main areas.

1. Refining package lists in master and mobian-light branches.

• As it stands, only the mobian-light installer has been trimmed so far. The final decision on default packages could be community inspired. Targeting a compressed installer size < 1.2GB seems reasonable. Multiple different versions with specific package lists could also be considered.
• Both base and phosh lists will require optimization (device/firmware too). For example, omitting the following to alleviate performance issues may be necessary: packagekit-plugin-flatpak gnome-software-plugin-flatpak packagekit-tools. Quite a few more could probably be removed or replaced with lighter alternatives to improve battery life and load.

2. Custom Kernels

• A full device list with all confirmed, working features, including touch, camera, speakers, buttons, c-states etc. The Chromebook R11 and Flip have been successfully tested with full mainline support. All tested Surface Books, Surface Pro 5,6,7,8 are confirmed 100% functional. A particular line of Zenbooks are having have problems with a touch sensitivity delay and Yoga 7 devices apparently produce audio issues (tbd). User feedback would be greatly appreciated to speed up this process.
• Including kernels without a formal project but available patch-sets in this repo. Meaning, instead of pulling artifacts in the CI, we either add a kernel compilation action via script in rootfs.yaml and installfs.yaml for specific devices or include a separate build.sh to compile the kernel and add the files to the kernel directory.

3. Release Cycles

• Cron jobs will be set up to produce builds with specific settings and types at a certain time. Unless weekly builds are requested, I'd say every two weeks or even monthly releases make sense.
