Documentation: How is the country determined?

For several Google related IP's (and there are too many), I often see, what seem to be the wrong country (I hope). In other words, it doesn't make sense to see that connection from the location I'm in. I looked up the GeoIP's using various tools, and they show a completely (but consistent) different country.

Can someone explain how Country is determined here?

Portmaster uses pre-compiled GeoIP databases to determine country information.
The databases have been updated and now contain the latest GeoIP data.

No action is required from the user’s side; the databases will be downloaded and applied automatically by Portmaster.
