Hinted variable fonts #833

In the help.txt file it mentions: "The variable font is currently not available with TrueType hints, only the traditional static font files are. This will hopefully change in a future release."
Just wondering is this a technical constraint preventing hinting being made available for variable fonts? Definitely interested to see hinting work with the variable fonts if possible!
