Moving Codes between Codebooks

Hi!

Thanks for the great tool. One question:

We´ve been opening up different code books in a project for different topics. Is it possible to move/import codes from one code book to another? If you activate code-sorting you can only sort within one code book.

Hi LHWI1, thanks for using the tool and giving feedback.
You are right, currently it is not possible to move codes from one code book to the other, nor it is possible to merge code books or import codes into codebooks.
But your wish to do this is totally valid!
From an implementation point of view right now you either use both code books in a project (this is how we imagined using multiple code books), or you have to recreate the codes in one of the code books. I am not sure right now if an export of a code book, editing the exported description and re-importing would maybe help.
So, how would you imagine such a feature?
Merge of codebooks: What happens, if we merge codebook A + B in your project? Is one of the codebook then deleted, and which one? Also, do all the selections (markups) done with codebook B go into merged codebook A+B?
Or should we import codebook B into codebook A with or without the selections?

From a UX point of view I´d say a top intuitive solution could be to be able to either move codes from code books directly within a project, or, in the preperations/code books section. And e.g. then being presented a choice between CUT or COPY a singular code or code system and being able to select INCLUDE SELECTIONS - or something in this direction.

We are currently testing openqda for a bigger collaborative analysis and will be able to give more feedback and ideas in a few weeks if you´re interested. We would definitely be interested to have some more features for future analyses and are happy to exchange thoughts to improve openqda, which we find a fantastic idea as an alternative to MAXQDA, especially for collaborative projects.

Hi Leon, thanks for the detailed input. Yes, we are always interested in more feedback and ideas, especially regarding wishes for the so far underdeveloped analysis part of OpenQDA. I am currently developing some more visualization plugins, so if anyone has specific use cases and target visualizations, please send us examples! I also will send you an email, to further strengthen the feedback loop

the problem is that with drag and drop directly into the other codebook this is as a web app rather delicate. Therefore I fear we have to do a UI brainstorm session.
