I’m thinking about a COSMIC applet focused on screen sharing, where clicking the
applet shows available display targets and receivers, and lets the user choose
how and what to share.
On click, the applet could:
Detect displays connected via HDMI/VGA and Fcast receivers
Present a simple list of available sharing targets
Sharing options:
Share entire screen
Share a specific window
Connection handling:
If an external display or projector is connected via HDMI / VGA / DisplayPort:
Allow sharing the screen or a window directly to that display
The goal is to provide a single, simple entry point for screen sharing, whether
the target is a physically connected display or a wireless receiver, without
needing to open display settings or launch separate applications.
Scope:
The applet acts as an orchestrator / launcher
It does not reimplement display or streaming protocols
Wireless sharing is handled via FCast
Wired displays use existing system display capabilities
This would be an optional, presentation-focused applet intended to make screen
sharing faster and more discoverable in COSMIC.
Open questions:
Does this fit well within the COSMIC applet ecosystem?
Are the necessary APIs available to detect targets and initiate sharing?
Would users find value in a unified screen-sharing entry point like this?
