How to make a plugin like lualine?

Hello devs,

I was wondering if anyone could provide some pointers on where to learn about the origins of lualine, and possibly how to contribute at a fundamental level. I wanted to ask because as I'm coming from a javascript HTML CSS background and I'm not entirely tracking how the neovim architecture would lend to making this type of feature. Is it a floating window? Or is it raw text on the same "z-axis" of the terminal? Thanks for the clarification!

I am not a lualine dev, but if I think you should start with TUI (terminal UI) concept first, then make any kind of CLI app yourself with any kind of TUI framework (even in node/deno/bun if you already know JS), then learn LUA language, then NVIM internals, then you should be able to make plugins like this one.
