Import Slack History

Your best bet is to install Rocket.chat as it is a drop-in replacement for Slack that can also deeply integrate with Nextcloud itself. Imports history, users, rooms, webhooks!

I would like to replace Slack with NextCloud Talk, so this would be really useful!
(I've looked at Rocket Chat, but would prefer Talk)

It is becoming more an more possible/logical to also use Nextcloud Talk as a replacement for Slack (e.g., there is now a Talk desktop app, besides the web and mobile apps). Being able to import Slack history into Talk would make switching much easier!

Is this possible/desirable (@nickvergessen)? If yes, are there blocking issues? One problem that I see is that Talk doesn't have threads (yet). But Matterbridge between Slack and Talk exists (https://github.com/nextcloud/talk_matterbridge), so I guess that there is already quite some compatibility.

I guess in general yes. The main problem is always that it's a one time thing and therefore effort-wise it does not make sense most of the time

I'm not sure that I understand:

• Do you mean that creating the import code is a one time thing?
• Or that importing the history is a one time thing?

In both cases I think that the effort is definitely worth it. Not having access to historical data can be a blocker for organizations to migrate (to Nextcloud). A Slack -> Nextcloud Talk migration tool would be in line with other migration tools offered by Nextcloud.

Well that's true from neutral POV, but internally it's basically: That could lead to getting new users, while creating features or fixing bugs keeps existing users and contributes to their happiness/joy on using it. So the feedback/impact is much bigger there.
