[BUG] npm package "applicationinsights-web-snippet" does not exist under owner "microsoft"

Steps to Reproduce
Run npm i @microsoft/applicationinsights-web-snippet

errors

npm error code E404

running npm i @azure/monitor-opentelemetry results in the same error message

npm config get registry returns https://registry.npmjs.org/

Check you access permissions as this worked for me, or it's an issue with another repo

I deleted (well renamed) .npmrc in C:\Users<username> and then things worked.
