Improve the project documentation

We should improve the project documentation in the following areas:

• Improve README.md to be more programmer friendly (include metrics, for example)
• Overall improvement to the Read API documentation as per issues Improve/refactor documentation regarding programmes in the Read API root #292 and Documentation is unclear on how to obtain events #294
• Add user authentication documentation (the current documentation was only a draft, so we should add more information and improve the draft to its "final" version)
• Add documentation about the academic information retrieval, associated with Support for new Integration data collection procedure #303
• Add User API documentation when Planning and Implementation of the User API #305 is completed
