unhandled 'error' event

I receive the following error when I add dedupe to my pipeline.

      throw er; // Unhandled 'error' event
      ^
Error: Error:

Before I used gulp-file-contents-to-json to compine 15 files into json, but these files do not physically exist, might that be a reason? How can I narrow down the error since there is no stack trace?

Physical existence shouldn't matter.
Can you provide a minimal example to reproduce the problem?

Just prepare a folder with files and a gulpfile.js

var fc2json = require('gulp-file-contents-to-json');
var dedupe = require('gulp-dedupe');
var debug = require('gulp-debug');

gulp.task('test', function() {
  gulp.src('./files/*.md')
    .pipe(fc2json('content.json'}))
    .pipe(dedupe())
    .pipe(debug())
  ;
});

Gives me the following output:

$ gulp test
