Improve mobile navigation menu UI

The mobile view currently shows a hamburger menu, but the UX can be improved.

Tasks:

• Improve spacing and alignment of menu items
• Add smooth open/close animation
• Ensure accessibility (keyboard navigation)

Hi @harshika53, I’d like to work on this issue under SSoC.

I reviewed the current mobile navigation behavior, and I think improving the hamburger menu experience would make the application feel smoother and more user-friendly on smaller devices.

My planned approach is to:

• Improve spacing, alignment, and overall layout of mobile menu items
• Add smooth open/close animations for better interaction feedback
• Enhance responsiveness across different mobile screen sizes
• Ensure proper accessibility support, including keyboard navigation and focus handling
• Improve touch-friendly spacing for easier interaction on mobile devices
• Maintain visual consistency with the existing UI design

I’ll also test:

• Mobile and tablet responsiveness
• Animation smoothness and performance
• Keyboard accessibility and focus states
• Proper menu behavior on repeated open/close actions

This would help create a cleaner, more accessible, and modern mobile navigation experience for users.

Implementation Plan

Improve the mobile menu layout

• Increase spacing between menu items for a cleaner look.
• Make menu items full-width with proper padding for easier tapping on mobile.
• Improve active and hover states so users can easily identify the current page.

Add smooth open and close animations

• Add smooth transitions instead of instantly showing or hiding the menu.
• Use small fade and slide effects for a better user experience.
• Keep animations fast and smooth for mobile responsiveness.

Improve accessibility and keyboard support

• Allow users to navigate the menu using the keyboard.
• Close the menu on Escape key press or after clicking a menu item.
• Add a clear focus state for the menu button.

Also test it is properly behaving in different screens

I would like to work on this issue under SSoC 2026.

I plan to improve the mobile navigation experience by refining the spacing and alignment of menu items, adding smooth open/close animations for the hamburger menu, and ensuring proper accessibility support, including keyboard navigation and focus management.

This will provide a cleaner, more responsive, and user-friendly mobile navigation experience across devices.
