This seems to be a little tricky to debug, as it is not clear at all where the call is made. I am trying to set up octave, sympy and octsympy in IntelliJ, so you can set breakpoints, but I have little experience with C/C++ so this might take a while.
@cbm755 Do you have scratch instructions for setting up a dev environment?

My best guess on this particular issue is that we put a Python None in a SymPy Matrix, which was kind of a grey area before. But its just a guess

MWE in Python:

We do this a lot. Perhaps SymPy's Array is an alternative.

Has this been fixed on main? I can't see the deprecation warning for laplace in the latest CI build anymore. There're deprecation warnings for other functions though.
