NON-COMMERCIAL LICENSE TERMS

Grant of License

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to use, copy, modify, and distribute the Software for NON-COMMERCIAL PURPOSES ONLY, subject to the following conditions:

Permitted Non-Commercial Uses

You MAY use the Software for free in the following scenarios:

✅ Personal Projects: Portfolio sites, hobby projects, learning projects
✅ Open Source Projects: Non-commercial open source projects with compatible licenses
✅ Educational Use: Academic projects, student work, educational institutions
✅ Research: Academic and scientific research
✅ Non-Profit Organizations: Registered charitable and non-profit entities
✅ Evaluation: Testing and evaluation for potential commercial use (up to 30 days)

Commercial Use Requires Paid License

You MUST obtain a commercial license if:

❌ Your organization generates revenue or operates for-profit
❌ You use it for client work, freelancing, or consulting (commercial projects)
❌ You use it in SaaS, PaaS, or hosted services

Source Code Availability

While the source code is publicly available for transparency and contribution:

  • ✅ You MAY view, study, and fork the code for non-commercial use
  • ✅ You MAY contribute improvements back to the project
  • ❌ You may NOT redistribute the Software as a component library or design system
  • ❌ You may NOT create competing products or services using this code
  • ❌ You may NOT publish the Software to package registries under different names

Restrictions

You may NOT:

  1. Redistribute the Software as a standalone component library or product
  2. Create derivatives for commercial redistribution or competing products
  3. Remove or modify copyright notices, licenses, or attributions
  4. Use the name "ui.edbn.me" or similar branding without permission
  5. Sublicense or sell the Software to third parties
  6. Use the Software for commercial purposes without a commercial license

Ownership and Intellectual Property

  • The Software is licensed, not sold
  • All intellectual property rights remain with the copyright holders
  • No patent, trademark, or other rights are granted except as explicitly stated

Contributions

By contributing to this project, you agree that:

  • Your contributions are licensed under the same dual-license model
  • You have the right to submit the contribution
  • You grant the project maintainers a perpetual, worldwide license to use your contribution

COMMERCIAL LICENSE

When You Need a Commercial License

A commercial license is REQUIRED if:

  • You use the Software in a commercial product, application, or service
  • Your company or organization is for-profit
  • You use the Software for client work or paid projects
  • You integrate the Software into commercial offerings
  • You generate revenue from applications using the Software
  • Your use case doesn't qualify as non-commercial

What a Commercial License Includes

Commercial licenses are priced based on team size and usage:

  • Solo Developer: $99/year - 1 developer
  • Small Team: $299/year - Up to 5 developers
  • Company: $999/year - Up to 25 developers
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing - Unlimited developers + premium support

Commercial License Grants

A commercial license grants you the right to:

  1. Use the Software in unlimited commercial applications
  2. Modify and create derivative works for commercial use
  3. Distribute applications incorporating the Software (in compiled form)
  4. Use the Software for client work and commercial projects
  5. Optionally omit attribution

Commercial licenses DO NOT grant the right to:

  • Redistribute the Software source code publicly
  • Create competing component libraries or design systems
  • Sublicense or resell the Software
  • Provide the Software as a SaaS or hosted service to third parties

WARRANTY DISCLAIMER

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • The authors and copyright holders shall not be liable for any damages
  • Total liability shall not exceed $100 USD or amounts paid for a commercial license
  • This applies to all claims regardless of the basis or nature of the claim

TERMINATION

Automatic Termination

Your license terminates automatically if you:

  • Violate any terms of this license
  • Fail to pay commercial license fees (if applicable)
  • Use the Software commercially without a commercial license
  • Redistribute the Software in violation of these terms

Effect of Termination

Upon termination, you must:

  • Cease all use of the Software
  • Delete all copies of the Software
  • Cease distribution of any applications incorporating the Software

GENERAL PROVISIONS

Governing Law: This Agreement is governed by the laws of the United States.

Severability: If any provision is found invalid, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

No Waiver: Failure to enforce any right does not waive that right.

Entire Agreement: This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement regarding the Software.

Modifications: The licensor reserves the right to modify these terms. Continued use constitutes acceptance of modified terms.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I use this for my portfolio site?

Yes! Personal portfolio sites are non-commercial use.

Can I use this for client projects?

Only if you have a commercial license. Client work is commercial use.

Can I use this for my startup?

No, unless you have a commercial license. Startups are commercial entities.

Can I contribute to the project?

Yes! We welcome contributions. See CONTRIBUTING.md.

What if I'm not sure if my use is commercial?

Can I try it before buying a commercial license?

Yes! You have 30 days to evaluate for potential commercial use.

What happens if I go commercial?
