Proposal: Official workbench font customization support in VSCodium
Changing the VSCodium (or VSCode) workbench font currently requires modifying internal workbench CSS files, which is fragile and gets reverted on updates.
For example, users are forced to patch the following file manually:
/Applications/Visual Studio Code.app/Contents/Resources/app/out/vs/workbench/workbench.desktop.main.cssWith a CSS override like:
Given the long-standing upstream discussion in microsoft/vscode#519, VSCodium could provide an official, supported way to customize the workbench font, either at build time or post-build (e.g. a stable override mechanism).
This would eliminate the need for patching internal files and offer a maintainable, user-controlled solution across all platforms.
I am using VSCodium with JetBrains Mono via this method and have not experienced any side effects so far. I’m satisfied with the result.
