Summary
Got to play around with the updated version (congrats, by the way!) and immediately noticed two things missing compared to the prior 1.6 line:
- Owing to the YouTube/Spotify player taking up space, the quick branch selection seems to have been removed, once more forcing a click into the "Switch Branch" button. This makes it trickier to hit on mobile (especially in portrait orientation), which is part of why I'd preferred/advocated for a dropdown selector instead. It's also much closer to what a popular SillyTavern extension does.
- Chat Name seems to have become meaningless - you can rename a chat all you want, but the chat name doesn't ever get displayed even among the branch selection list once you pick it. You can edit a branch name manually in the branch selection dialogue, but unless you already know what's IN the branch, you basically can't rename it, because you can only ever rename branches OTHER than the branch you are currently on this way.
- Further examination with chats that were properly named and labeled in 1.6 reveals that the branch names seem to have become completely reset from the chat names entirely - the chat names I have are all correct, but every branch in the "Switch Branch" selector simply labels them as "New Branch."
My hunch is that something got altered in this logic from the refactor.
Expected behavior
At the very least, branch names should take their name from the Chat Name they are associated with, and presumably if the user overrides it with something else in the branch selector, that takes precedence (unless the chat is renamed again). Ideally, the quick branch selection is also restored in some fashion. (There's still plenty of room for it at the top on desktop, though on mobile this admittedly might be rather crowded unless the YouTube/Spotify music player's width is shrunken down some there.) Presumably there should be some sort of way to edit the currently-selected branch name as well.
Actual behavior
No quick branch dropdown, no chat names in Branch selection, just generic "New Branch, New Branch" style names.
Steps to reproduce
- Create a roleplay.
- Rename the chat.
- Create some branches. Under older versions of Marinara, these would inhereit the Chat Name.
- Under current versions of Marinara, these simply become generic "New Branch."
Environment
- Marinara Engine version: Release: v2.0.5 Build: c391711
- Install type: Installer
- OS + version: Windows 10, 25H2
- Browser or app shell: Firefox
