I don't know the first thing about development, but I figured I'd share this error I am having and I had spent many hours trying to nut out with the help from LLM, but hit a dead end with all kinds of forces, workarounds and tests run.
I had some parsing error as well, but I sorted that out. Some how a "`" ended up in the system's openal config file (probably me)
Anyway, launching the game via the terminal, I can see this error and only this error.
[ALSOFT] (EE) Unexpected property: 0x19ed
Audio works, but is flat and clearly has no EAX or even basic 3D audio.
According to the LLM, it says the game is calling a function in openal that was in development, that no longer exists or was dropped from release versions of openal.
Some panning feature according to the error's hex number. I have no way to confirm this though.
Interestingly, EAX works completely fine and very well in one other game (Red Faction) via crossover (wine). Ironically, I was never able to get EAX to work on most windows machines without an actual wrapper + EAX equip sound card, and that was sometimes. It worked out of the box using crossover with the wrapper and openal installed within the bottle. So I know EAX does def work on this machine.
Just can't get ut2004 to work natively without this error.
I also have a minor graphical issue, probably should be in it's own thread. But the TLDR of it is, the nvidia start screen is a little squashed in and you can see the spider mine on the left that is normally out of view. The main menu has the characters on the right also slightly squashed, but all other items are the correct, no issues in game otherwise, this problem wasn't the aspect or screen res either.
