How are :latest Images Updated?

I'm trying to do use the registry.fedoraproject.org/fedora-toolbox:latest Image but I'm not sure If it will be updated or not, when a new release comes out, will distrobox upgrade actually update it? and if I use registry.fedoraproject.org/fedora-toolbox:43, will it be stuck on 43?

You can use --pull=true to overcome this. If you use :43 you'll be stuck on 43. You might want to use a manifest file (distrobox assemble) to easily recreate a distrobox being able to swap the underlying image.
